Had an absolute blast at the @valleyfolkgathering ! I debuted this new song “Too Many Blessings (To Count)”, had some great sweets and @northmountaincoffee . As part of mental health day, I’d like to go full disclosure. I have a mental health condition that has most recently been diagnosed as schizoaffective disorder, bi-polar type. It had started in the past as heavy anxiety and depression in middle and high school, most likely stemming from cannabis use at a young age. As it grew, with further drug use and unsupportive living conditions of my own choice, it was called psychosis. This condition caused me to have a serious accident that broke several bones and left me in the hospital for months. Life became much more manageable with medications, and the indispensable support of family and the amazing team at NS Health, Abbie J Lane, VRH and Chipman locations. From time to time my symptoms flare up and I may present as behaving strangely and thinking in ways that don’t make sense to other people. So my warning would be to be very careful with drug use, especially as a young teenager, as you may not be fully aware of the damage it could do, and how it may affect you later. Young minds are particularly sensitive and some more vulnerable than others. Take care out there, check in on each other, support those with diverse mental phenomena, and try to be tolerant with those who are struggling with their mental health.
