It took far too long to embrace my colours, or see a life reflected back at me that deeply resonated, such that I’ve dedicated most of my adult life to creating tools, conversations and spaces that might inspire others to reveal and embrace their own colours sooner than I was able to — not in the same way, but in their own most authentic way.
In my privileged experience, I carry the torch of and for 2SLGBTQIA+ history, pain, community and kinship.
It’s no secret that we have work left to do, it’s no secret that the mental health of LGBT+ people is disproportionately worse, it’s no secret that LGBT+ people are still being discriminated against or that our rights are being threatened, and it’s definitely no secret that we are some of the strongest and bravest and most resilient.
The choice we make to leave our homes each day and participate in society is an act of bravery. Take that in. I get very emotional reflecting on this, a wave of sadness to incredibly complex layers that land me at gratitude; a gratitude for knowing deeply of a shared pain that ties me to some of the most incredible humans who have walked this Earth. We are bound by a shared pain that reveals itself as such a gift.
To those who don’t leave their homes and this online space is the closest and safest place for you right now to feel seen, know that you are, know that we are out here standing for you until you find your way to us. ✊💙
