We like to explore how sketches translate into 3D.
There’s something personal in a 2D sketch. The looseness, the happy accidents, the skill.
That quality can easily get lost in 3D.
So it becomes a balancing act, staying true to the original drawing, without being constrained by it.

Something that came from nothing. At Rabbit Hole we had the idea to do something animated with, well… rabbits. So from a sketch came an idea and in our spare time we focused on this project, and now it’s done. I still love the fact that with a team of 3 you can crunch out an animation idea within a reasonable timeframe. Give it your best and then move on. I normally don’t share animation here, but I’ve worked to hard on this and I’m also very pleased with the result. So here is our short film “Lunch Break”. Enjoy it while at lunch break I would say.
Joe is a crane operator. This crane is made for lifting heavy things, Joe is not. Nothing much excites Joe, except for this one thing, this one moment which shines a dim light on his otherwise dull existence: lunch-break.

A happy fox. Every time I opened my sketchbook I landed on the page with this fox I drew. And I really liked the shape of his head. So I once again poked @elien_dl and asked if she could help me and turn it into a 3D model. I feel sad sometimes that the company I run doesn’t give me any room for modeling anymore, as there are other things that have priority above me just modeling for fun. But luckily Elien is always there to help and breath 3D live into it.

For a job we’re working on with @rabbitholeantwerp I did some designs in 2D before turning them into 3D. Some got rejected as the agency thought they went too far, and they’re probably right :-)
But we liked the design of this one too much to just put it in a drawer. So we turned him into 3D just for fun. 3D model and textures by our in-house talent @elien_dl Then she endured my endless comments and tweaks and now we have a cute little worker guy enjoying lunch.

A nice collaboration project with @elien_dl . It started from a small sketch I made. Elien made this beautiful sculpt and textured it. I had some remarks. She tweaked it. Then I did the lighting, rendering and compositing. then She had some remarks. I tweaked it. And we were done.
