I have plenty of words compiled in my mind but the thought of compounding them to make complete sentences is overwhelming.

When you climb up the ladder and stand at the top of the slide— you have to let yourself go to enjoy the thrill and joy of the slide.
Otherwise you climbed to the top for no reason.
It’s okay to let go, give yourself permission to feel joy—
To actually experience the things you worked so hard to create.

Some of the best parts of this job aren’t just the animals—it’s the people standing beside you doing the work every day.
When I first started, Destiny taught me so much about animal behavior and always kept her door open for questions, ideas, and learning. Having someone around who is knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge makes a huge difference in growing into a better employee—and a better advocate for the animals.
What makes this place special is being surrounded by like-minded people with one shared goal: saving more animals. Destiny and I are consistently strategizing new ways to increase positive outcomes and improve life for the animals in our care. That partnership between Adoptions and Enrichment—working side by side to keep improving—has been one of the coolest collaborations in the shelter.
Now having Justin over in the Pet Resource Center strengthens that work even more, helping support the community. Reuniting more pets with their owners and providing resources to keep pets with their families so fewer animals have to enter the shelter in the first place.
Between the three of us, we’re connected to intake, outcomes, and community support—and coming together to think creatively about how to help both animals and people has been amazing.
I can’t wait to see what’s next for this team. 🐾

Creating abstract designs beneath my skin are veins of blue and purple

Every day I remind myself that the path ahead is more beautiful than I could ever fully imagine. My mind can’t even conceptualize the good that’s still unfolding. When I look back, every chapter has somehow been better than the last.
For a long time, my thoughts lived in survival mode—convinced I wasn’t worthy, convinced tomorrow might not even come. But that voice came from desperation, not truth. And I’ve learned I don’t have to live there anymore.
Now I’m learning what it means to grow, to flourish, to become someone who believes in myself, believes in the people around me, and has faith in the universe. The kind of faith that understands nothing is truly impossible.
Like Alice stepping through the looking glass, sometimes you have to believe in impossible things before breakfast. Because the world is far bigger and more magical than our fears ever let us see.
I hope today reminds you that your dreams can be bigger than you ever imagined—because even the most impossible ones have a way of coming true.

Today on Mother’s Day, I’m double posting because I want to recognize a woman who is a second mother to me.
When I was on the streets of New York City, she stepped into my life and became someone I could look up to. As a young trans person, having someone to guide you can mean everything. Tabytha supported me, protected me, and taught me so many things I wouldn’t have learned on my own.
It’s an honor to have a strong Black trans woman choose to lead and guide me when she didn’t have to. Her love, wisdom, and strength helped shape the person I am today.
Today I just want to say thank you. And I want to shout out all the trans women who step up, who take young queer people under their wing, and who become mothers to those who feel lost and alone. You change lives more than you know. 💐
