Last year, I showcased my video art in Yunqi Town at the 2050 conference for arts and sciences. The conference promoted international cooperation, unity, and peace.
My piece specifically was designed to match a perfume scent of lotus flowers created by a fragrance designer in China. I was given themes of spring, blooming, and flowers.
I built the piece using @touchdesigner , and used #glsl to modulate and give life to my photography of flowers and water.

~ARTECHOUSE x BRDG Bot~
This robotics installation for @artechouse was for the 2024 Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC! I worked with @brdgstudios to build a @touchdesigner robot control system that can draw manga art.
It was a dream of mine to work with @artechouse , and a big goal of mine as an artist in this engineering field.
Thank you @brdgstudios for bringing me onto this project. It was great working with @patchyprojects@handesignasty and the BRDG team, as well as @polyhop and the internal ARTECHOUSE crew.

I spent this week taking some long walks collecting footage with my phone. All of the footage is recorded/edited with my Google Pixel 7.
Also threw in some footage of melting plastic I recorded with @camcnelson at @hive76 (full credit to Cam for coming up with that idea!)

~Snow Projections~
I've been playing with different types of projection surfaces, this time snow! (process below)
Originally I walked into the forest with all my equipment, but the bare trees didn't hold much light. To compensate, I mounted the projector on my pickup truck and hit the snow covered ground after a snowstorm.
I'm really proud of how this turned out!
Next time I'll use a brighter projector (7k+ lumens). Because of the moisture from melted snow, I was initially scared of bringing expensive equipment and opted for a basic 2.1k lumen Epson projector.

~ Stage Design for House of Chicks x Tony Y Not ~
I had so much fun bringing this stage design out for House of Chicks at @wowphilly ! I hung a trampoline frame with semitransparent spandex in front of the DJ and projected minimalist, audio-reactive shaders onto it. A rear projection screen was used to add multiple layers of effects.
@_space_bones_ and the @wowphilly crew were super helpful with the AV setup and held down the LED lighting and rear projections!
Additionally, I draped fabrics, hung up greenery, and installed LED candles with the help of @_sophiacostello
Thank you to @houseofchicks_ for having me out and trusting me to hang a trampoline in front of their stage (lol) and @tonyynot._ for playing a banger of a set!

~The Forbidden Throne~
Seat yourself on the throne, an immersive suspended art piece made with upcycled materials, LEDs, and chain.
The chair structure was made by suspending trampoline frames from my ceiling, rigged with chain. I fixed up an old antler chandelier, added LEDs, and draped fabrics. I also created a custom leather seat using an old leather couch I found on the curb.
The rigging was engineered for safety using redundancy, and can securely hold multiple people.
To expand upon this concept, I've dreamed of suspending this in the woods. When you sit on the chair, the lights could respond appropriately, and a voice could read you a spooky campfire story. Additionally, I could use a mechanical pulley system to lift the participant into the air.

~AI Eye Watcher~
The all-seeing eye watches you as you move around the room, using AI body tracking techniques. I'm posting this in time for Halloween, but this sci-fi concept expands beyond the season.
I used @touchdesigner for animation and body tracking. MediaPipe (Google's AI suite) is used to process webcam data and track viewers faces. Additionally, the 3D model was generated using text-to-mesh AI, but I had to manually fix up the geometry and textures in Blender (text-to-mesh isn't very advanced yet, but provided a nice starting point to play with)
For projection mapping I used Resolume Arena. This can be improved with multiple projectors hitting it from multiple angles. The projections on the fishbowl do NOT show the tracking concept.

~DIY "Holographic" Display~
I wanted to find a quick, inexpensive way to create a multilayered display. Using projectors, a TV, some thrifted window screens, and a 3d printer, I prototyped a small living room setup.
This design can be scaled up to full-door screens, or you can use large mesh fabric to create a stage-sized design for theater/music industry applications.
No, this is not technically a "hologram", but the multiple layers in 3d space create a really cool effect for the viewer! It's a really cheap, easy way to view 3D art.

~Forbidden Portal Mirror~
New media art installation built using LEDs and projected GLSL shaders, with added deco. The projected ripples illuminate the viewer, the surrounding area, and the portal itself.
I had a lot of fun prototyping this piece and I'm excited about the potential.
