I feel like I witnessed something remarkable. Days after photographing @kcactorstheatre performance of “Everbody” I’m still thinking about it. It struck me in my emotional heart. I was behind my camera trying not to get blurry frames from laughing so hard. I was also using that camera as a shield for the deeply rooted fear, sorrow, and love that were forming into tears on my cheeks. The performances obvious meanings sinking somehow past my cynical nature and opening me up to other less obvious personal interpretations of what I was witnessing.
The talent and production on this blew me away (except that one light or light color that kept banding even at slow shutter speeds…that light gets no love from me. No fault of the lighting designer, the choices rocked. Only cameras see that anyway).
All that to say.. go to the City Stage @unionstationkc and see @kcactorstheatre production of

The girls had friends over on Halloween to Trick or Treat. The houses in the neighborhood always bring the fun.
First year in a while that @nparigo and I didn’t dress up although I turned my hat around while making photos so I could have claimed being a sports photographer or Luke from Gilmore Girls.

I really dig @thefollytheater I hope it bounces back better than ever. I love the history and the vibe of the building. Recently I was there to photograph @umkccons Orchestra. As a photographer I love how I can move nearly everywhere without interrupting the audience during a performance. It gives me the freedom to create more typical stage work images but also capture what is going on behind the stage, and on the stage from different angles.
Here are a few of my favorites in black and white from that night.
Sometimes you just need a throne and a crown.
@kcroosvb let @poliveri@type.mike.likes and myself craft some images for them last week. Nice break from the documentary work I’ve been doing lately.
