Rivets were first used in Egypt roughly 5,000 years ago for pottery and tools.
Romans used them for armor.
In 1863 Antoine Durenne developed a rivet making machine.
In 1873 Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss patented the use of copper rivets onto stress points for clothing.
