Und jetzt kommt’s: Zur Premiere kommen Mala Emde und Christoph Maria Herbst, die Hauptdarsteller, persönlich nach Emden! Zusammen mit Regisseur Simon Ostermann und weiteren Beteiligten aus Cast und Crew. Am Tag darauf zeigen wir den Film auch auf Norderney.
Die warmherzige Vater-Tochter-Komödie erzählt leicht, witzig und berührend von Familie, Verantwortung und der Suche nach dem eigenen Platz im Leben. „Sommer auf Asphalt“ ist eine Produktion von Wüste Medien im Auftrag des NDR in Zusammenarbeit mit ARTE.
Der Vorverkauf für den Eröffnungsfilm und das Festival startet am 18. Mai.

World premiere and celebrity guests at the festival opening!
We’re kicking off the 2026 Film Festival with the world premiere of SUMMER ON ASPHALT by director Simon Ostermann on June 3rd.
And here’s the big news: Mala Emde and Christoph Maria Herbst, the film’s lead actors, will be coming to Emden in person for the premiere! They’ll be joined by director Simon Ostermann and other members of the cast and crew. The next day, we’ll also be screening the film on Norderney.
This heartwarming father-daughter comedy tells a lighthearted, funny, and touching story about family, responsibility, and the search for one’s place in life. “Sommer auf Asphalt” is a production by Wüste Medien on behalf of NDR in collaboration with ARTE.
Advance ticket sales for the opening film and the festival begin on May 18.

We had to shoot in Macao—Hong Kong ferry terminal, jetlagged, new city, chaos: security, passport check… then Marco goes: “Hand me the V-mount.” And boom: bag gone. 😳
Calm is power. Thanks to the port authorities: we missed the ferry, caught the next one—and the day still turned out amazing. 🥋🎬

For everyone interested in our upcoming documentary production shot in Istanbul, I can highly recommend watching our previous film Against the Silence to get an early sense of the topic.
In it, we tell the moving story of Gülzire Taschmamat, a Uyghur woman living in exile in Munich.
Gülzire’s tireless struggle to keep the memory of her disappeared sister and parents alive stands as a symbol of the silent tragedy and enforced silence that the Uyghur community continues to endure around the world.
The film paints an intimate portrait of a woman shaped by loss and hope. Through her eyes and experiences, we gain insight into what it takes to keep an oppressed culture and identity alive in exile.
Gülzire’s story is also a call for recognition and support for a community too often overlooked.

The film is named after the NGO, Join Bands, Not Gangs, which is using music to combat gangsterism in at-risk neighborhoods.
In the townships in South Africa, there is a high rate of gangsterism, along with associated murders and drug abuse. Most people get into this environment as teenagers. Therefore Join Bands not Gangs aims to engage children aged 8-14 with music, providing them with access to instruments and lessons.
Our protagonist, Dylan, is on of the supported kids trying to find his way in a child-unfriendly environment. Sadly, only 5 months after shooting the project, Dylan, despite all his efforts, joined a gang which led to his grandmother’s death by heart attack when hearing the news. We want to keep the part of him before this fatal decision alive and dedicate the project to the brave and ever-fighting heroes that run NGOs and keep going no matter the setbacks.
