✨ Upcoming Exhibition at BOX 13 ArtSpace ✨ 📅 May 22 – June 27, 2026 📍 Opening Reception: Friday, May 22, 2026 | 6–9 PM 📍 BOX 13 ArtSpace | 6700 Harrisburg Blvd, Houston, TX Scaff(Holding) | Jordan Vinyard Front BOX gallery Technology dislocates. It pops the seams and streamline fixtures of our lives, demanding constant recalibration. As we evolve alongside our machines, we redefine the governance of our bodies, actions, and experiences. Scaff(Holding) interrogates the architectures that sustain labor hierarchies in an era increasingly mediated by intelligent machines. Scaff, the “scum or refuse” depicts the overworked bodies and devalued processes that remain necessary. The work asks: who becomes the support system? And more critically, what does it mean when machines begin to decide who—or what—occupies this position? As automation and artificial intelligence reshape the labor landscape, hierarchies emerge. Formed by access, optimization, and control, these systems do not eliminate “dirty work” They displace and obscure it, redistributing its weight onto those recast as infrastructural—human or otherwise. Through installation, kinetic sculpture, and performance, Scaff(Holding) stages an absurd choreography of support, burden, and neglect. Outfitted with autonomous car parts, stones, and embedded video, the space operates as both workplace and theatre. Machines enact ritualized gestures of maintenance, order, and futility. Repetition becomes a metric of worth; endurance, and search for belonging. 🎉 NEW EXHIBITIONS 🎉 📅 May 22 – June 27, 2026 📍 Opening Reception: Friday, May 22, 2026 | 6–9 PM 📍 BOX 13 ArtSpace | 6700 Harrisburg Blvd, Houston, TX BOX 13 ArtSpace is excited to present our latest exhibitions, opening May 22 from 6–9 PM! Join us for an evening of art and conversation as we showcase work across our four gallery spaces: Scaff(Holding) by Jordan Vinyard 📍 Front BOX “Scaff(Holding)” by Jordan Vinyard transforms Box 13 Artspace into an absurd choreography of labor hierarchies. Vinyard dissects and sutures through works that are as repulsive as they are endearing. Last Night and Tomorrow by @gabyhurtadoramos 📍 Back BOX "Last Night and Tomorrow" is an exhibit of multi-media prints and installation by Gaby Hurtado-Ramos in the Back BOX gallery. Through layered drawings, photographs, and prints, Hurtado-Ramos explores the multiple outcomes possible in both the physical print process and in scenes of hopefulness longing for a future with a dance floor. Transformation Cycle by @dsbucheliart 📍 Window BOX Dario Salvatore Bucheli presents a site-specific painting titled “Transformation Cycle”. The work follows the snake’s mythic journey, inviting viewers to consider cycles of change, surrender, and renewal within their own lives Do You Have Papers? by @madellinevice 📍 Upstairs BOX "Do You Have Papers?" laments those loved and overlooked by systems that fail to value them as people with collecting and mixed-media craft. This exhibition uses archiving as an act of resilience and appreciates immigrant clutter by devoting space to the remnants that illustrate their shared experiences. These exhibitions will be on view through June 27, 2026. 📍 Opening Reception: Friday, May 22, 2026 | 6–9 PM 📍 Location: BOX 13 ArtSpace | 6700 Harrisburg Blvd, Houston, TX 77011 Special thanks to our supporters: This event is funded in part by the City of Houston @cityofhouston through @houstonartsalliance@houstonMOCA . ✨ Upcoming Exhibition at BOX 13 ArtSpace ✨ 📅 May 22 – June 27, 2026 📍 Opening Reception: Friday, May 22, 2026 | 6–9 PM 📍 BOX 13 ArtSpace | 6700 Harrisburg Blvd, Houston, TX Do You Have Papers? | Madelline Vicencio Upstairs BOX gallery "Do You Have Papers?" laments those loved and overlooked by systems that fail to value them as people through tactile practices such as collecting and mixed-media craft. The title recalls a dehumanizing question that reduces a person's worth to their citizenship status. Driven by a scarcity mindset and concern for those at risk of deportation, the work deconstructs accumulative notes, documents, household items, used clothing, and sentimental keepsakes, repurposing them into materially rich collages and sculptures. This exhibition invites viewers to confront the detritus that makes up human existence. It seeks to memorialize the home and the immigrant experience through mechanisms akin to "immigrant clutter," a habit of hoarding while preserving collective history. Like those who surround themselves with the remembrances of their homeland and those who use what they have at hand to minimize waste, this archive is a container of devotion and evidence of resilience. She then descends underground, entering a liminal space where she sheds her skin and releases what she can no longer carry forward. Finally, she emerges from the earth, reborn into a new form. The cycle continues, an ongoing passage of change, surrender, and renewal. Dario Salvatore Bucheli is an artist and museum professional based in Beaumont, Texas. Bucheli holds a BA from the University of Dallas and an MFA from Texas Christian University, both in Studio Art with a focus on painting. Exhibition history includes presentations throughout Texas and internationally in both solo and group exhibitions. Bucheli’s work is represented by Fort Works Art. Bucheli explores themes of displacement, identity, and connection through reinterpretations of symbols from pre-colonial Mesoamerican codices alongside references to contemporary American politics and culture. This approach reflects an ongoing effort to situate the present moment within the broader context of American history. How can spaces of connection, especially queer dance parties, gay bars, karaoke, and the environments they create enable us to imagine the future? In this exhibition, I explore the significance of club and living room dance floors alike and what it feels like to look back and savor sweet moments. In my most utopian dreams, a queer dance party embodies everything that is craved and missing from the day-to-day, carving space for a world that is accepting and beyond its current constraints. I make layered drawings, photographs, and prints to explore the multiple outcomes possible in both the physical process of making repeated imagery and the disciplined hopefulness necessary for a better future. In a world that is unsafe for queer people and multitudes of identities, I'd like to think another world is possible. Through my work, I imagine places like a dance floor or a karaoke bar as ways to dream up what we wish Website: gabyhurtado.com Instagram: @gabyhurtadoramos Special thanks to our supporters: This event is funded in part by the City of Houston @cityofhouston through @houstonartsalliance@houstonMOCA .
