On Sunday, April 12, 2026, at approximately 8:15 p.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received a report of climbers in need of assistance on the Naked Edge climbing route in Eldorado Canyon State Park. A group of three climbers reported they were unable to continue their ascent after losing their route and not having headlamps as darkness fell. The lead climber was positioned on pitch five of the route, while the two additional climbers remained on pitch four. The climbers encountered challenges with rope management and pace, resulting in becoming delayed on the route after nightfall. Rocky Mountain Rescue Group (RMRG) responded to the technical rescue, and Boulder Emergency Squad (BES) aided with drone support. Rescuers reached the first climber at approximately 10:30 p.m. and provided warming supplies. A rescuer rappelled approximately 105 feet to reach the two lower climbers, securing them at approximately 11:31 p.m.The two climbers on the lower pitch were then assisted in ascending the final pitch of the route, completing the technical portion of the climb at approximately 12:58 a.m. All three climbers safely returned to the trailhead at approximately 2:25 a.m. The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind outdoor enthusiasts of several important safety considerations. Climbers attempting long or technical routes should carefully manage their time and ensure they have a realistic plan to complete their objective well before dark. Always carry reliable headlamps with extra batteries, even for routes expected to be completed during daylight hours. Additionally, climbers should bring sufficient food and water to sustain themselves in the event of delays, as well as appropriate layers to stay warm in rapidly changing mountain weather conditions. Mild daytime temperatures can quickly become cold and hazardous after sunset. Thank you Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and Boulder Emergency Squad.

Earlier today, Boulder Emergency Squad deployed to the Plainview Fire near the intersection of Highway 93 and Highway 72. The fire has burned over 100 acres south of Boulder, and BES worked alongside regional partner agencies to support containment efforts. Our teams provided a wildland fire hand crew for ground suppression, while our UAS team provided critical mapping and live overwatch to monitor fire behavior and ensure personnel safety. Thank you to all our mutual aid partners for the seamless collaboration. Please continue to avoid the area as crews remain on-site for mop-up operations. #BoulderEmergencySquad #PlainviewFire #WildlandFire #PublicSafety #BoulderCounty

Last night around 8:30pm, Lyons Fire, Hygiene Fire, Lefthand Fire, Larimer County Sheriffs Office, and Boulder Emergency Squad responded to a brush fire on Stagecoach Trail. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and worked into the night to contain any hot spots. Lyons Fire will continue to monitor throughout the day.

I had the privilege of joining my fellow rescuer @juliette_hans on @9newsdenver to talk about Boulder Emergency Squad (BES)!
Over the past five years, BES hasn’t just been a place where I volunteer; it’s been a second family and an incredibly humbling way to give back to this community. The people on this team are truly selfless. They answer the call at all hours, no matter the weather, for everything from swiftwater rescues, mountain searches and wildland fires just to name a couple of the types of emergencies we go on. Now, we need your help! BES has been named one of two U.S. Finalist for a customized rescue Land Rover Defender 130 and a $30,000 grant in the Defender Service Awards. This vehicle would be a game-changer, getting our equipment and team into the most rugged, remote areas of Boulder County that our current trucks simply can’t reach.
Please support the mission that is so close to my heart. VOTE DAILY now through October 19, 2025, at BoulderRescue.org - It takes less than 30 seconds and every single vote counts! Thank you for cheering on the team! ♥️ #VoteBoulderRescue #BoulderEmergencySquad #9News #ColoradoVolunteers #SearchAndRescue #BES #LandRover #Grateful @BoulderRescue

Over the weekend BES teamed up with @frontrangerescuedogs and members of the @bocosheriff.co K9 unit for an incredible dive training exercise! Our amazing K9 partners sniffed out divers underwater—showcasing their powerful scent detection skills. After successful finds, they were rewarded with treats, toys, and plenty of praise. Divers also took the opportunity to conduct RIT drills. Practicing the skills required to assist one of our own. Great teamwork all around!
