ALEXA PLAY “I’VE BEEN AWAY” BY BRENT 🏋🏾‍♀️👩🏾‍💻As always I always design my birthday outfits. This year was a bit more special. 2018 we had our first show. A year out of high school and still trying to figure it out. A whole show of jeans! Our favorite of course has always been the “LAYERED JEANS” Fast forward to our birthday this month and the jeans are finally here! Expensive, expensive, EXPENSIVE! Raw Japanese denim, real leather for our patch, unisex and weighing 6 pounds .. our first official sample! From hearing $1,500 for a sample to $300 for a pattern, throughout the years it’s been about mastering our craft. Our own buttons, jacron, zippers and done by our favorite manufacturers in NYC, it has all been worth the wait. + we still have more personalization work to do! it’s never been easy building a brand by urself, everyone who supports @perilousfiles is watching the brand, community and myself grow. I’ve managed to adjust in different environments during covid and still create, tears and all. From FaceTiming @awakaday and asking my sister to buy and ship fabric from New York to Toronto, packaging it up and sending to me, to thinking about the small things for my PERILOUSPRINCESSES...this has been my favorite journey. I dedicate this collection to all the powerful, sexy, outgoing, strong, educated, remarkable, INDEPENDENT, beautiful, punctual, hardworking and “don’t take shit” women of the world, literally. Most importantly I want my black women to feel connected to this collection. Truth is, we are way to sexualized and disrespected and something needs to change seeing THE FUTURE IS FEMALE and we’re taking over. I want you to feel bossy, entrepreneurial and sexy while wearing these skin tone bodysuits and crossbody shirts. Each piece is designed by a woman (me) for women, I know what we want and need from secret coverage to wrapping the shirt how you want. Changes have definitely been made! I’m so humbled and fortunate to of had such beautiful ladies apart of this 2 month journey. From April 1st to June 6th, that’s a wrap. these past few weeks in nyc have been so crazy, but very much needed. I have been put into situations to test my character, my mental and my spirit & every time I surpassed the expectations. Im cut from a different cloth, you can’t break me. 20 years old in New York City on my own, signed my first lease and working on flourishing my flower harder than ever. I want to thank those who were apart of this growth, if it wasn’t for ur fuckery I would be content with how I was living. for those of you like me torn between vocalizing your opinions around the conversation of #blacklivesmatter and #policebrutality and turning off your phone to keep your sanity, I wanna leave you with this: the policing of black bodies on social media needs to stop, incase you didn’t know black people already live under constant police surveillance.. this is nothing new. I have been talking about the issues that black men and women go through daily on this very same Instagram page and have gotten a number of DMs about my stance on certain issues. I do not have to mourn or post on the same level the way some of you who are new to this have been doing, when this is my every day LIVED experience. NEED I ADD!! We also need to stop asking for equality when we actually aren’t equal to the oppressors, we are KINGS and QUEENS, read about it. do ur research. Our ancestors danced while they fought. Get it together. WE DONT SEEK FREEDOM WE ARE FREEDOM, THE BLUEPRINT. IT ALL. Love always from THE SEED THEY COULDN’T KILL🦋
