. **HIP HOP IS - GRONINGERMUSEUM (NL) - SATURDAY DECEMBER 20th** . Might this be the show that will reconcile me with the term HIP HOP? . It’s not that I have ever given up on the culture, or ANY of its disciplines, but I’ve heard this term/word/label used and abused by FAR too many people from within the culture, after having already to deal with those from outside who still perceive us as a “youth cult”; even though I’ve personally been ACTIVELY involved since 1984… . I ALSO feel that the sustained misuse or misunderstanding of its potential over these last decades (the commodification of rap by the music industry, for instance) has completely eclipsed the fact that the culture is probably the most amazing, resourceful and evolutive toolbox of sorts, through which we can potentially over come ANY obstacle that this predatory, parasitic and pyramidal societal system puts in our way. . I am showing twenty A4 and one A3 drawings of the original @botyofficial poster sketches, over a period of decades, emphasising the fact that I am one of very few people who has dedicated so much time, effort and observation to portraying dance; albeit within certain genres which WE in the culture KNOW and FEEL are way richer in diversity of language, dynamics, and level of difficulty, than established forms of dance. . We reinvented all the main forms of artistic expression known to mankind since time immemorial, so why don’t we apply the same approach to all the other parts of the system that culture (or counterculture) has initially been a reaction to? Why not run our own parallel game instead of aligning with “them”? . “HIP HOP IS” opens this Saturday 20th of December at the @groningermuseumofficial , but there will be a first opening at 20:00 this coming Friday evening, which I will also be attending.
