Introducing the music of LONG’S LONG LOST & MINI MART!
“Very excited to share our score by René G. Boscio prior to our premiere next week. From writing through production and up til post, music remained something I couldn’t quite put my finger on. Our editor, Lynn Hong, made exciting temp score choices I would never have thought of and started a conversation with René that added such a surprising and delightful essence of mystery, muscle, and environment to the film.” -

“My temp music choices were inspired by the film’s tone, which felt like a waking dream – so it only felt appropriate to use an Aphex Twin album, in which the artist recreated soundscapes of his lucid dreams, as a starting point. Because of the post-production schedule, we were scoring and editing at the same time. René delivered a score beyond what I could’ve imagined with temps – so I was thrilled to then be working with his score as we wrapped up the edit.” -

“You often hear horror stories about the use and misuse of temp music, but in our case it was totally the opposite. Lynn’s temp choices as an editor were the perfect catalyst for a creative conversation that allowed us to ask the right questions and figure out exactly what the story needed musically.
The first thing I did after our spotting session was find a bass recorder, because I felt that it would be crucial for me to have a hands-on experience when composing this score. So, along with my trusty gamelan strips, odd studio drums, and prepared piano techniques, I was able to start developing a sound that felt appropriate for all the nuances this story required. From the mystery of the environment the film takes place in, to the heart-pounding tension of the character’s confrontations, these instruments allowed us to breathe a new layer of excitement into the story. And I’m extremely grateful to have had the opportunity of embarking on this creative journey with the incredible artists and collaborators that are Julian and Lynn.” -
