It was such a joy to return to Edinburgh after a long break - and to do so at the iconic Cameo Cinema, a place whose architecture and atmosphere never stop enchanting us. We were also honoured to present, in collaboration with the 24th edition of the Polish Film Festival Kinoteka, the Scottish premiere of Brother, dir. M. SobieszczaƄski - arriving to us almost directly from its London screening. Thanks to the support of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh, we were able to share the recorded Q&A from Kinoteka’s closing gala, featuring director Maciej SobieszczaƄski, actress Agnieszka Grochowska, and young debuting actor (and judoka!) Tytus Szymczuk, run by Maggi Hurt. Both the screening and the Q&A were met with warm applause, and we received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback about the film and the event. A huge thank you to Cameo, Kinoteka, and the Polish Consulate for this wonderful collaboration. Before we head into our summer break — during which we’ll be working on the autumn–winter programme for you — we’ll be back in Edinburgh for one more screening. Details coming very soon. Stay tuned. @moniia_verse @koperek_agnieszka @niki_michailidu @thecameocinema @sobieszczanski @agnieszkagrochowska_official @tytus_szymczuk @filip_wilkomirski66 @polish_culture

There’s something very grounded about BROTHER. It carries a visual sensibility that feels close to the tradition of Polish cinema. The screenplay received the Krzysztof Kieƛlowski ScripTeast Award. The film’s visual tone comes from Jolanta Dylewska, whose cinematography has shaped many significant Polish films. She is best known for her work on Spoor (Pokot), In Darkness (W ciemnoƛci), Tulpan, Po‑Lin. Scraps of Memory (Po‑Lin. Okruchy pamięci), Ayka and Eagle. Last Patrol (OrzeƂ. Ostatni patrol). The composer of the score, Antoni Komas‑Ɓazarkiewicz is known for his music for In Darkness (W ciemnoƛci), Spoor (Pokot), Burning Bush (Gorejący krzew), Mr Jones, Quo Vadis, Aida? and Miasto 44. At the centre is a story about a family trying to stay afloat. Borscht Film club is bringing BROTHER to Scotland for two screenings only. đŸŽŸïž Tickets in Borscht Film Club bio.

What happens when a family secret refuses to stay buried? Brother, the powerful new film by Maciej SobieszczaƄski, dives deep into memory, guilt and the fragile bonds that hold us together. It’s an intimate story set against the shadows of family history — and a confrontation with the past that can no longer be avoided. Winner of the Krzysztof Kieƛlowski ScripTeast Award, the film has already drawn international attention for its emotional precision and bold storytelling. It also carries the unmistakable visual signature of Jolanta Dylewska — one of Poland’s most respected cinematographers, whose work has shaped some of the most important films of the last decades. Her eye brings extraordinary depth and tenderness to this story. We’re presenting Brother with English subtitles, making the film accessible to both Polish and international audiences. 📍 Glasgow Film Theatre — Wednesday, 29 April at 20:00 📍 Cameo Picturehouse Edinburgh — Thursday, 30 April at 18:30 đŸŽŸïž Tickets available via the link in Borscht Film Club bio. We’ll also be sharing a 19‑minute recorded Q&A with the filmmakers, hosted by Maggie Hurt — a chance to hear directly from the creative team behind the film. Join us for two special screenings, sponsored by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh and organised in collaboration with the Kinoteka Polish Film Festival in London.
