I use styrofoam to visualize what my planned cake height and size would look like.
Although I ended up making the cake taller. Cake was 32.5" with the cake drum and I had a 32" clearance in my trunk🙈🙈.
Event color scheme was emerald green and black. Planner @aconcealaffair and I discussed doing an ombre effect, light to dark green shade for the cake. But I knew I didnt want just any light green tone. I needed a color that will pop against the emerald and black decor. A color that you will notice the minute you stepped into the room. Like a "look at me" sign was pointing at the cake.
And that's when I decided on Neon green. The color is electric and vibrant!
Did I pull it off?
When you cant find rosebuds in the color you need. Buy some in a light color and dye that sucker!
These were powder blue. Americolor Leaf Green mixed with water did the trick. I didnt even have to let it "marinade".
I popped it in the oven at 190° to dry up faster.
This is $47 worth of styrofoam. The cost of ingredients to make this same size cake (to bake the cake only, buttercream, fondant, ganache etc not included) is approximately $126.
That's a $79 difference.
Now the frosting, decor pieces, labor and profit calculations will be about the same for either a styrofoam cake or a real cake.
With that said, why do yall keep thinking making a faux cake will significantly reduce your cake cost?
I recommend introducing faux tiers into your design, if you want a large cake but only have small guest count.
