WHAT IS BORAGE? Now that we’re almost a year old we thought we’d clue you in 😅 we’re asked all the time what it is, and while we’re happy to talk about it in person, here’s a handy reference just in case.
Borage (pictured in this rainy ASMR video, volume up) is a blue, star-shaped flowering herb native to the Mediterranean, sharing the same family as forget-me-nots and comfrey. Introduced to the US, it’s considered a beneficial nonnative that is a wonderful addition to gardens because of its prolific blooms. Their design means nonnative and native pollinators alike can pollinate efficiently and it blooms from early June to the last of the growing season. The plant is edible, with a mild cucumber flavor, and was one of the first things I successfully grew from seed in our garden at home.
We chose the name Borage because @seasoned_southpaw are not natives of Speedway, I’m not even from Indiana, and moreover we wanted to acknowledge our white European privilege: our goal is to be beneficial nonatives that enhance and uplift the community.
