Heard yesterday that @drinkatpalate is closing down, and it got us reminiscing about the early days of Boot Scrap because so much of our beginning is intertwined with that place. Back in 2020, @blairrystyles and I had just started Boot Scrap and we were really just trying to make stuff and figure out how to be helpful. @lifeisrecess was managing Palate at the time, and for some reason he really believed in what we were doing. Looking back at our books last night, I realized that 7 of our first 11 paid jobs were for Palate - mostly just making little videos about the food truck and the events they were putting on. Jeremy really just let us run around and create. He was always throwing welcoming events and bringing people together, which gave us so many opportunities to shoot and experiment during those formative Boot Scrap days. Palate really became the clubhouse for us, we spent so much time there - hanging out, shooting videos, eating the insanely good food @parkerlewin + @narrrds and the crew were making, meeting people, and talking ideas. There’s something really special about that season of Boot Scrap - before we knew what we were doing, when everything was just scrappy and felt exciting and possible. Sad to see Palate go. Really grateful for the role it played in our little corner of Wilmington and really grateful to Jeremy and everybody there who made it feel like home for a while.

This is Sledge Forest - and it’s time to show up for it once again. We need everyone to show up to the New Hanover County Courthouse on Monday, April 6th, 2026 at 4 PM. The proposed development of Sledge Forest has passed a conditional technical review with the county. The developer still has many permits to file for, but as many as 1,800 - 4,000 homes could still be placed on this unique ecosystem that is home to trees that are several hundred years old, rare and endangered species, and the last expanse of old growth forest in the county. We need you to show up and continue to use your voice to oppose this project. Show up for the birds, the trees, the water, the Castle Hayne community, and our neighbors. Wear green and keep showing up.

Why are we burying Christmas trees on the beach? 🎄 Because projects like these help restore dunes, reduce erosion, and protect the beaches we love. Small actions can make a big impact on improving access, strengthening our shoreline, and keeping our coastlines beautiful for everyone. Curious how you can get involved? Join us to learn more and be part of the solution. The ocean always needs more friends! Thank you @bootscrap for the awesome video!

Last April, we heard about a magical patch of land along the Black River with flora rare to the coastal plain, including mountain laurel, rhododendron, and galax. These plants are reminiscent of the Appalachian Mountains, and are unusual to find in conjunction together this far southeast. Rare conditions and a little mystery makes this spot so enticing to find. We paddled for 6.5 miles on a perfect spring day to discover what we called the Black River Highlands. The elevation rises abruptly, and the mountain laurel was in full bloom. The mix of coastal cypress with white flowering laurel felt unreal, and provided a glimmer of joy in exploration. As the cold here sets in, the warmth of spring is surely anticipated dearly.

SEE YOU ON OCT 6! Come out with @savesledgeforest this Monday, Oct. 6.     ⁃    Rally at 3p on the courthouse steps     ⁃    Meeting/Presentation starts at 4p inside the County Courthouse - 23 N 3rd St, Room 301 Wear GREEN to let the Commissioners know what you’re there for! Over 12,000 people have already spoken up + now it’s time to pack the courthouse steps and meeting room. This moment matters because the County Commissioners have the power to close the loophole that’s being exploited. It’s critical they see just how much support there is for protecting the last old growth forest in our area. The presentation may not start until after 5, so even if you’re coming from work, you can still make it! Video by @bootscrap (full short doc ‘The Last Forest’ coming soon) Drone by @brinkermediahouse

At Bespoke, the cocktail starts long before the pour. Our ice program ensures every piece is crystal-clear, precisely cut, and made to dilute in your glass slowly — making the coldest (and best damn) drinks we can, every time. Video: @bootscrap
