For Episode 009 of The Guest List, I’m extremely blessed to feature Johannesburg-based DJ, Producer, Photographer, and Videographer, and host of the future beats platform/collective VIBIN’ IN THE CLOUD, IRV BLVMES JVKE! IRV and I have been going back and forth for a couple of years now, sharing music and learning about each other’s creative processes for our respective platforms. Inspired by his mom, who sang alto in the local church choir, and his dad, a storied jazz enthusiast, IRV was surrounded by music from birth; those experiences helped curate his palette at a young age. He’s also an avid skateboarder, still skating to this day and taking inspiration from legendary skater Dylan Rieder, whom IRV dubs “The King of Cool.”
“ZEN is the most important part about creation. Focusing entirely on spiritual direction and listening to your intuition. Seeking enlightenment via meditation or prayer so you can be calm , relaxed and being in the flow. Emphasis on FLOW.”
Mix 082 of Boolah Radio features the legendary Producer, DJ, founder of the Hip-Hop collective Pass The Drive, guest for Mix 032 and my friend, DJ Quezs. I had mentioned I had a couple special guests for this year for the Boolah Radio runs and I’m lucky to have him featured again amidst his busy schedule.

Episode 008 of The Guest List features Producer, DJ, Artist and my friend all the way from New Zealand, swayze. Growing up watching his family and friends playing instruments and making beats, music has been a part of swayze’s life since he was three years old. Through his own music discovery and hearing the production of Just Blaze, J Dilla, Scott Storch, swayze started making beats as a teenager and found inspiration in the producers that he was sharing the internet with. Names like Mr. Carmack, J.Robb, Tom Misch & bsterthegawd. A long time Boolah Radio favorite, swayze stays committed to his process and his sound, all while inspiring the next generation of producers and music makers.

Episode 007 of The Guest List, I’m very lucky to introduce editor, journalist, and visual artist Verity Raphael aka Rave Report! I’ve known Rave since the very beginning of Boolah Radio and her platform has been a key inspiration in the early days of me trying to figure all this out. Her work both as a journalist and as a visual media creator remind me that life and the pursuit of happiness isn’t just a one lane roadway.

For episode 006 of The Guest List, I’m lucky to feature LA-based DJ, producer, and graphic designer shaw00p—co-founder of Don’t Go Yet and founder of the coffee brand Cup of Troy. Originally from San Jose, his journey into performance started in the percussion section of his high school band, where he competed at a high level. This opened the door to his love of live performance and his understanding of the pursuit of “the flow state.”
One of his biggest influences is Daft Punk and their album Random Access Memories. “That album unlocked something in me—it was the only album on my iPod in high school for a while.” Drawing further influence from artists like Isaiah Rashad and TDE, Snarky Puppy, and DJ Rashad, shaw00p has carved out a name for himself as a producer, DJ, and event curator. He finds real passion in channeling his emotions into his music and creating lifelong experiences for the people around him.
“I think the most important part of creating is being as authentic as possible with your feelings and skills in the moment.”

Mix 079 - DJ BlessThaGawd Guest Mix
————————————
For Mix 079, I’m lucky to feature Charlotte, NC native DJ and Producer BlessThaGawd! I was connected to Bless via Mix 026 guest gl0cksamurai and after hearing his background in the blog era, I knew we spoke the same language. Inspired by both music and his family, BlessThaGawd says that they really both go hand in hand.
“Playing music around the house, in the car or for family gatherings creates a memory and connection to the song that will never fade. My whole background is family & music. “
He also talked about his time growing up in North Carolina and finding ways to make playlists as a kid.
“Growing up, I was fascinated with Hip-Hop/ R&B. I would be glued to the radio recording songs that I liked with the built in tape recorder that was attached to the boombox I had. The songs would come on and I would press the “Play + Record” button and create a playlist of songs to a blank tape at the age of 10. My favorite part about listening to the radio was the 5 o’clock traffic mix, hearing DJ Butterfingaz spin old songs with the new. That blew my mind and drew me closer to the music. It wasn’t until my early 20s when I got interested in DJ’ing, the thought of it seemed hard to do at first, but because I loved music so much and heard so many songs over the years, it was easy for me to pick it up and learn.”

Episode 005 of The Guest List features London DJ Peart.! Since launching his DJ career in 2019, Peart’s sounds and creative viewpoint have been staples of his name. Taking inspirations from J Dilla, Virgil Abloh and Ryan Coogler, Peart. embodies the symbiotic nature of visuals with music, seen in works like his “Curated For Movement” series on his YouTube channel. His ear for sounds coupled with his visual eye make Peart. more than just a DJ. He’s a world builder, community advocate and somebody who I directly identify as someone who inspires the Boolah Radio ecosystem.
“Creation is your art. There is no right or wrong. It’s an expression of your own self. It can’t be duplicated.”
