4. The Poet’s Empress by @storygoose
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I am genuinely amazed this is Shen’s debt novel. This is a stunning, emotional, and unforgettable read.
The Poet’s Empress is a dark fantasy with a Chinese-inspired world that has a complex, complicated court and unique magic system. The story is fast paced without sacrificing character depth. Terren, the MMC, is so captivating and cruel. And Wei, the FMC, is so brave and selfless. She learns to read and write poetry to cast a difficult spell that must be stemmed out of love. (But don’t be fooled, there is NO romance in this book!)
I am still thinking about the ending. You should’ve heard the gasp I let out while listening. I did a tandem read with my audiobook (thank you @macmillan.audio for the ALC) and gorgeous book from @owlcrate .
5. Strength of the Few by @jamesislington_author
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is the second book in the epic high fantasy series after Will of the Many. I really enjoyed book 1 after annotating it for my bestie and was incredibly excited for this one. Although I don’t think I was fully prepared with my mom brain (LOL Hayden took my brain cells.) Strength of the Few is different than the first one in many ways but still enjoyable. Higher stakes. More world building. ACTION.
I don’t want to give away too much but I liked having multiple POVs and getting all the Visses(?)! I had both the audiobook and physical copy to read together! PHEW because it took me a minute to remember the different POVs.

anyways, march was a memorable month for many reasons. i got to celebrate my besties at their baby showers, my maternity leave came to an end and i went back to work (sad face luckily i’m still wfh)! and my girl and i got sweet mommy + me photos this month! (i can’t wait to show you the photos!)
