Here is my review:
I really enjoyed The Sward Catcher and grew fond of the characters so was very intrigued to read The Ragpicker King as well.
The protagonists of this story were Kel and Lin and the book was told mainly from their perspectives. However, in this book we had a chance to hear from other characters as well, and that was very welcomed indeed. I liked the characters, I think they were interesting, different and even gullible sometimes. The forbidden romance between the characters has frustrated me, I don't see how it is going to work in the long run but I am very keen to find out.
I am always impressed with world building in fantasy books because the author's imagination is enviable indeed. I really liked the subtle twists and unexpected turns that this novel had to offer. It was a slow burner at the beginning but the ending has surprised me very much. The topics discussed in this book were forbidden love, friendships, duty, difficult family dynamics and more.
To conclude, I really enjoyed the beautiful and imaginative writing and world building as well as the characters that were always growing. The plot felt a little slow and could've used more turns and twists because I love the unexpected in a fantasy book. I would strongly recommend it to those who are looking for more character oriented fantasy, I think they would like this novel very much.

It was my first novel by Sylvia Day and I was not very impressed. I think it lacked plot development and if the concentration would have been more on the plot and less on obsession on Kane, it would have been a more interesting read. I am curious to see what the next book would have to offer.
