Third "illustrate the flowers I see around" character. This mage-warrior was inspired by this one cool blue flower I saw up in the Alps. It's apparently a Downy Gentian (yeah, the flower that gives the name to that color, what a coincidence). But more than the color alone, it was the stark contrast with those groups of little reddish flowers to inspire the art. As I mentioned in the video yesterday, it being the odd one out and so big and attention catching, felt as if a more powerful (and maybe dangerous?) being was amongst these weaker, peaceful and scaredy flowers.

I posted this artwork a while ago when I could only see it though the screen. I now have the actual card in my hands (thanks to a wonderful overseas dealer that takes care of the artist) and I can say that this is hands down my favorite printed work so far.
This is a special convention alternative art for the special @gudnakgame

Soldier III done for @gudnakgame . If you're not familiar with the game (in that case go check it out, their IG is random but the Discord is fun, I promise), Soldiers, Brutes and Hunters are three basic fighters each having three power levels. In the new expansion these mechanic fighters can do fun stuff by sharing limbs and weapons and other modular parts.

STORY TIME! These are pages for a school project, 2019 I think. That course taught me how to draw, but I was also struggling and facing a lot of anxiety and insecurity. These pages are the physical manifestation of that. The assignment was to sketch, pencil and ink a handful of pages for a made up comic book project. I spent a week, every evening redoing the same pages over and over as I was never happy with the result, it just had to be perfect and impeccable or it would have meant I was not a good artist, or worthy to become a professionist. Not even finishing one that in my eyes I had already fucked up, so I had to begin again and again and again.
You can't see, from the first image - the finished page, all the hours, sheets of paper I used, ink I consumed and dread that took to get to the end of it. This is what happens often with the audience of art I think, you see a finished piece, you enjoy it, you say I like x, I dislike y, you praise the technique, the creativity and you don't see what actually goes behind the scenes, all the hours of work, all the dealing with perfectionism and fear of not being good enough. This is also part of doing art, not just the final piece.
And the funniest thing is that all of this doesn't matter anymore now. I did and finished so many other things that these pages are just a drop in an ocean. And all those worries gone in smoke, as once I went out of school realized that one can do pretty much anything and there is no standard or hard rules to follow. All of this said in the hope that it can cast a light onto darker parts of doing art. You're an artist and also struggle? Yep. I see you.
Guess this is the point where I point you to my own lessons on art. Hopefully dealing with it in a less strict and constructed way. Nothing is real anyways. (Check bio)
And! We should probably be sharing more of the ugly parts. That maybe would help us all to see that sucking sometimes is just ok.
You know when you draw, and you look at it, and go like "meh, could do better"? I lost a bit the way of the artist lately, the joy of just illustrating for myself. I had to look at older works these days and found him, who I had named Petrarch. This one didn't make me go meh but wow. It is fun to do this stuff! I should do more.

It's been too long I did (hoster AND partecipated) to one of these. They were always lots of fun and a great chance to discover new art folk (how many of you did I find this way?) and see different styles. This is Poe, and for the next four weeks (until May 8th) I challenge you to draw him in your style, medium and way. I remember Instagram sucked the last time and I was having trouble finding all the entries in the hashtag, so to make sure I see it, tag me on your post. I will share and collect everything every day!
Needless to say, AI will be ignored.

Three quick warmup illustrations. Point was to illustrate some characters in 15 min, then 30 min. I slightly failed the last one, but that's because I got caught up into adding details and stuff, which is ok, was fun.
