I recorded the process of creating this piece. 🎨
I often do a drawing on thick watercolor or bristol paper that I glue onto a panel for my paint surface. Then, I lay down a coat of matte medium and some washes of color for a ground.
I can still see the drawing through the washes which makes the painting process much easier. From there, I can go back and forth on the lights and darks and build up the form. I didnt show it in this one but, sometimes I use texture gel to get more of an illusion of form in the highlights.
