Tuesday still doesn’t feel real. I was at Imperial College London speaking to doctors and professors about social media… and the whole thing started because someone found me on Instagram.
It’s actually wild when you think about it.
The same videos I record in my room, sometimes tired, sometimes overthinking, sometimes just trying to get it done… put me in front of people who have spent years mastering their fields.
Cancer. AI. Sustainability. Health. People who have done the work, read the books, built real impact… sat down to listen to me talk about showing up online.
I won’t lie, I was nervous. Not small nervous. Real nervous.
The kind where you question yourself a little and ask, “am I really meant to be here?” I spent months preparing because I knew this wasn’t a “just show up and talk” moment. I had to meet them where they were, break things down in a way that made sense for their world, not mine.
It stopped being about “them being ahead” and started being about “I know this thing, and I can teach it well.” And that’s what I’m holding on to. Because there are days I question everything. Days I think maybe I should just stick to what I studied. Days I wonder if all of this is even worth it.
But then moments like this happen… and I remember why I started. So if you’re watching me and thinking you want this too, just know it’s not magic. It’s showing up. Even when it feels small. Even when it feels silly. Even when you’re not sure it’s working. Because one day, those “small” things will open doors you didn’t even know existed.
And yes… I definitely dressed up for it.
Yesterday I spoke at Imperial college London training Drs and Professors on how well to use social media and it was surreal because Ellie told me she found me on Instagram.
My silly little videos got me into a room where people who have read way more books that myself in different fields stayed for hours to listen to me talk about social media and my little silly videos.
I’m talking about Professors and Doctors in Cancer, AI, sustainability and Health and I was selected to come speak about how to build a personal brand on social media and the basics of shooting videos.
Gosh I was nervous. Research took months because I was talking to people way beyond my level and I needed to tailor my slides to them and the feedback was so great and I’m just grateful to God for giving me this tiny little space on the internet to do what I love doing. Also thank God for my baby @thesocialmediaoga she’s still growing but doing amazing well.
Some days I wanna blow everything up and just maybe focus on the degree I studied in school but on days like this, I am reminded why I need to still be in this space and keep going.
So to every girl who’s looking at me and is thinking, “I really am proud of her and want to be like her someday”, just know every single day she shows up even when she doesn’t feel like it, I am proud of her.
Keep going Omobolaji. God’s got you.
