The Golden Pavilion, Gouche hand-painted
Pendant and jacket earrings
I created this as one of the two designs for the GCDC competition 2026. Inspired by Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto, Japan — specifically the scene of the pavilion covered in snow.
The sugarloaf cabochon mirrors the shape of the pavilion’s roof. The circle and triangle motifs represent the surrounding mountains, Kinugasayama and Hidari Daimonjiyama. The tree accent is designed in the Japanese Rinpa style, referencing the snow-covered trees in the scene. Lacquer elements pay homage to the Japanese craft of Urushi.

I created this as one of the two designs for the GCDC competition 2026.
I looked to Chefchaouen in Morocco as my destination of inspiration for this entry. Chefchaouen - also known as the "Blue Pearl of Morocco" - is a town in the Rif Mountains, famous for its distinctive blue-washed buildings and streets. For my design, I took inspiration from the colours, the shapes of the doors of houses as well as the stairs that run throughout the town.

The Purple-striped Ring

Chrysaora colorata, the purple striped jellyfish, is one of the ocean’s most dangerous yet beautiful creatures. As we continue to pollute and overfish the sea, I chose this entry to serve as a reminder that the ocean is not defenceless and needs to be preserved to maintain its beauty. This ring is designed around that tension — a beautiful but dangerous creature that has chosen to wrap itself around your finger, with its stingers threatening to caress your skin every time you move.
