(🇪🇸👇️) A little Texture Friday moment for our Tucano suite 🧡 This one has been very well loved by our folks since it came to life, and it makes me so happy getting to sprinkle pieces of such a joyful chapter of my life into these colorful suites, then watching them become something entirely their own for each client. I’ve had another semi-custom concept quietly taking a back seat in my brain for a while now. It’ll be inspired by being back home again… though probably not in the way you’d expect, and I’ll just leave you hanging with that little nugget for now. Happy Friday, folks. Tengo otro concepto semi-personalizado que lleva un tiempo apalancado en el fondo de mi cabeza. (🇪🇸👇️) More flashbacks because this one only got its minute of fame a while back, and a client recently asked me what’s possible… which immediately brought this save the date back to mind. I always say the sky’s the limit. In this case, the sky really was the limit ;) Because honestly, the better question is: what’s not possible? Give me an inch and I’ll run with it and take a mile. Don’t threaten me with a good time🥲 Cotton candy skies in paper form? Why not 😏 Every angle giving you a different burst of color, just the way we like it. One of my favorite things about designing is realizing there are really no rules when you’re willing to experiment a little. Paper can do a lot more than people think it can, and I’m always here for seeing just how far an idea can go. If you’re willing to join me for the ride that is 🙃 –– Más invitaciones del baúl de los recuerdos porque esta pieza solo tuvo su minuto de fama hace un tiempo, y hace poco un cliente me preguntó qué es posible… y automáticamente me vino este save the date a la cabeza. Siempre digo que el cielo es el límite. En este caso, el cielo literalmente era el límite 😁 Porque sinceramente, la mejor pregunta es: ¿qué no es posible? Dame un poquito de libertad y me emociono enseguida. No me tentéis con un buen rato. ¿Cielos de algodón de azúcar en formato papel? Sí señor. Cada ángulo regalándote una explosión distinta de color, justo como nos gusta. Una de mis cosas preferidas de diseñar es darme cuenta de que realmente no hay reglas cuando te permites experimentar un poco. El papel puede hacer muchísimo más de lo que la gente cree, y a mí me encanta descubrir hasta dónde puede llegar una idea. (🇪🇸👇️) This week has been a bit of an oxymoron in every sense of the word. A full cup in the best way, but also one of those “I’m definitely tired” kind of weeks. Weddings have a way of doing that. Pure joy on one side, a little knot of anxiety sitting right in the middle of my stomach on the other. And honestly, stationers really are doing somersaults behind the scenes of those pretty grids you end up seeing on your screen. For every slightly messy moment, I’ve been trying to give myself a small mental high five for the good ones too. And there were plenty. I’ve put out designs this week that I’m very proud of. Delicious colors, good type, nothing less of course. We got fresh rollers in, which if you know you know, is a very good day in the shop. I spent time with some of my favorite humans, which always resets everything. And I’m also very grateful for colleagues in this industry who show up as a support system and occasional therapist. And then there were the bts marathons. Calling printers for hours trying to track down a very specific shade of paper like it was a treasure hunt I had fully committed to. And I think I may have hit a personal record on plate setup this week… a solid 5.5 hours for one design. You can imagine how many layers were happening there. Tasty ones, but many. This is a funny kind of work. A mix of beauty, patience, mild panic, and a lot of care… and me occasionally wondering why I thought 5.5 hours on a plate setup was a reasonable life choice. So there ya have it, the raw side of things. And a lovely suite for this flashback friday while I wait patiently to share all the newbies we have on the roster. But this one feels like a good fit for today. It’s calming, which I clearly need, and terracotta can do no wrong 😉 So here I am, doing my part of showing up, even if it’s brief. (🇪🇸👇️) We missed our business birthday by a few days. Very on brand lately if I’m being honest. I barely know what day I’m on 🤪 but just to be clear, I’m talking about life admin, not client work, obviously 🥲 Bodega Press turned six this week and it’s hard to fathom how much we’ve grown and how much we’ve done in that time. In what feels like a blink, we’ve worked out of three countries, across three continents, and 6000 pounds of equipment later (and I’m sure more to come)… and so many colorful pieces that have left our door. This little business has grown in ways I never could have planned. Not just in the work, but in the people it’s brought into my life and the stories I’ve gotten to be a part of. The friendships I’ve built in this industry really do feel like ones I’ve had for a lifetime. This season feels like a mix of everything. Chaos being number one, which has always been part of my persona, and figuring it out as I go. I’ve always been of the belief that if there’s a will, there’s a way. I know my vendors can attest to that pressure from me 😅 It hasn’t all been easy, but it’s been worth it. Getting to create pieces that end up meaning something to people still feels really special to me, and I hope that feeling never goes away. If you’ve been here in any way, whether you’ve worked with me or just followed along, thank you. Truly, even if I’m a few days late to say it. And to those who are new here and haven’t seen my face yet because I’m currently in the middle of a move and deep in wedding season… that’s me, just about six haircuts ago and still painfully awkward in front of a camera haha. (🇪🇸👇️)I kept my word and said I’d talk about this topic briefly, and I’m sure I’ll write a blog post eventually when the paper dust settles. And what better day for a throwback, walking through some of our field of type. You might notice no two clients ever get the same type treatment… and my font library is living proof 😬 Type choice can make or break a design, and I will die on this hill. Type is all about tone. It’s not just what something says, it’s what it conveys. That’s why context matters so much. You wouldn’t use an Art Nouveau-inspired typeface for a beach retro concept. The visual language doesn’t align with the mood, so even if the layout is strong, something feels off. The same applies in reverse, where a clean modern sans serif can completely strip away warmth from something meant to feel nostalgic or expressive. What makes a design work is alignment. When the type, layout, and intent all speak the same language, it feels resolved. When they don’t, you feel that friction immediately, even if you can’t always explain why. There’s a reason type is so precious in my process. It’s often the most time-consuming part to get right, and it’s usually where I start before designing anything else. It tends to shape the entire direction of a piece long before anything feels “final.” It’s less about picking something pretty, and more about carefully curating something that belongs to the story being told. Because type is never just decorative. It shapes how something is read, understood, and ultimately experienced. If you’ve ever felt that something was “off” in a design but couldn’t quite explain why, chances are it came down to type. (🇪🇸👇️)Slowly trickling out little glimpses of what we’ve been working on these last few months… I can’t fully share everything just yet until the weddings have passed, but I can’t help myself. Think of it as a design challenge and this one was no exception. New Orleans is too full of life and flavor to do anything less, so naturally, this save the date had to follow suit 😜 –– Los save the dates son mis favoritos para diseñar.
