Class Participants will get an in depth dive into TIG welding steel (along with other metals such as aluminium and bronze), prepping material for welding, machine maintenance, and welding theory through careful instruction over two 5+ hour consecutive days to get a more comprehensive understanding of the process. Culminating in a well rounded understanding of the very useful and practical skill, ending with participants bringing home their final creations.
Feel free to bring your own ideas to class! Students will be invited to create their own tig welded object/project out of provided steel with a variety of teacher assisted prompts. (platonic solids, steel blooms, bookends, etc)

Kyklos (Diakopti Kyklou)

Cast Bronze, steel, stainless steel
Standing over 10' tall, Kyklos is composed of individually cast bronze spine pieces, skulls, flora, and fauna articulated with stainless steel and supported by a steel base. The perimeter of Kyklos is punctuated with static flame effects that ride the vertebrae as they ascend/ descend the Oroborus; illuminating moments of cast bronze lilies, barnacles, irises, southern magnolias, and various species of mycelium.
Kyklos translates to "Cycle" and "Diakopti Kyklou" means "Cycle Breaker" in Greek. Kyklos reminds its audience of the duality of nature, the life/death/rebirth pattern, to inspire onlookers to break their own cycles of suffering, and to break the systems that oppress us all. This work inspires transcendence and encourages recognition of both the endless suffering of existence and its constant opportunities to thrive and grow.
