is pleased to present A CURATED BEING the first Solo exhibition by Bob Jonkers.
Opening Friday 8 May, 5–7 PM
Chopinstraat 31, Amsterdam
In his work, Jonkers explores the complexity of identity, how it is shaped, negotiated, and often constrained by the societal norms surrounding it. His paintings carry a quiet urgency: a plea for vulnerability and intimacy, met with the uncertainty of whether such openness will be received or resisted.
The works unfold like a visual reel of his life; intimate fragments drawn from his immediate surroundings. While not all are self-portraits, they remain deeply personal, reflecting moments that blur the line between observation and introspection. Human and non-human subjects alike seem to search for belonging within a world where identity is increasingly curated and performed.
In this context, existence can feel contingent on external validation, leaving little room for ambiguity. Jonkers invites viewers to sit with that tension: what we choose to reveal, what we conceal, and what exists in the space between.
Through A CURATED BEING, he challenges the idea of a fixed self, embracing instead a fluid, vulnerable, and ever-shifting sense of being.
We warmly invite you to join us for the opening.
