Castle in the Ground, released today on VOD (unfortunately no theatrical cause of, well...). This was a special one, and a film I’m pretty fucking proud of. It’s not everyday you get to make a movie with one of your best friend’s (Joey Klein), an amazing script that really lends itself to visual simplicity, a cast that brings such genuine love and care to a project, and a crew that consistently goes to the mat for you (even when you ask them to do dumb shit). It was also one of the hardest shoot’s emotionally I’ve ever gone through - literally everything that could’ve gone wrong, went wrong. And most days ended with me taking a twenty minute sit down shower where I’d contemplate all the mistakes I was making while thinking about how to actually get the film finished in a way it deserved. But we did. And here it is :) Can’t thank the crew enough for helping carry this movie through to the end (both figuratively and emotionally) particularly my key homies, gaffer Ryan Hernandez, key grip TJ Richardson, Bestboy Devin Myler, and 1st AC Chris Reilly. Also, DP’s are basically useless without a solid art team, and production designer Zosia McKenzie and art director John O’Regan created the most honest world for this story.
Also, massive appreciation to the cast that put up with all our shit and created a space for collaboration unlike anything else, Alex Wolff, Imogen Poots, Keir Gilchrist, Neve Campbell, and my spirit animal Tom Cullen 😘
Joey you put me through hell and I only look back on it with the biggest smile. You’re the best, love you for 10,000 years :) Thanks also to Panavision for the constant support!
