NBC passes on Native-led sitcom pilot. 💔 The untitled comedy from Sierra Teller Ornelas (@sierraornelas ), Jackie Keliiaa (@jackiecomedy ), and Bobby Wilson (@bobbydues ), directed by Tazbah Rose Chavez (@tazbah ) and set in a Native community center in Oakland, will not be moving forward at NBC. Filmed earlier this year, the show (codenamed “OKW Pilot”) featured a star-studded cast including Jana Schmieding (@janaunplgd ), Wes Studi (@wesleystudie ), Rachel Dratch (@raedratch ), Brian Bahe (@brian_bahe ), and more. “What we made was unlike anything that’s ever been done — a Native Network comedy. It was whip smart with real heart,” Ornelas shared in an Instagram post. She also noted the show came “crazy close in one of the worst markets to date.” That’s no exaggeration: NBC recently canceled five series, including Lopez vs. Lopez and Suits: L.A., amid a major programming overhaul.
