Starry sky over Torch Lake, Michigan
In hindsight, I’m noticing that the palette and subject are very similar to my favorite painting - Nocturne in Black and Gold, the Falling Rocket by Whistler.
Abandoned dredge machine at Quincy Mill in Copper Harbor in the UP. Was used to reclaim sand and extract copper that previous methods had left behind before being abandoned in the lake in the 60’s.
Kimbell Art Museum by architect Louis Kahn. A series of vaulted gallery spaces that are a modern interpretation of Roman vaults. The space was a bit understated but I was really interested in the way that indirect light was brought into the gallery. At moments of really bright sun, the ceiling looked more like curving steel or silver than concrete.
