Been thinking about the idea of ‘togetherness’ for a while and was able to explore that during my time in upstate New York @artslettersandnumbers “Prototype 1” is a table that reimagines the shared experience that happens at a communal table. Traditionally, meals/drinks are shared when individuals come together, yet each person experiences the occasion in their own separate way and reality. “Prototype 1” seeks to transform that dynamic, encouraging a much more enriched and shared experience. Resembling a seesaw, the table tilts according to the weight distribution of those interacting with it. As each participant engages with the table, the shifting balance compels both people to become acutely aware of each other’s presence, actions, weight, and movements. The shared experience of the meal or drink can no longer be experienced in isolated togetherness; instead, it demands to be experienced together in a new reality where the awareness of each individual’s unique influence is taken into consideration. Every moment of the meal becomes a negotiation, a constant interplay between separate realities and a collective experience. Many more prototypes to come to explore this idea.
