(1/3) INTERVAL - Visual Identity and Catalogue for
@mafineartcsm Degree Show 2025
@csm_news
The Interval operates as a space between, a threshold that negotiates light and shadow—not only as visual contrasts, but as conceptual tools. Drawing from the rawness and immediacy of sketching, the project deconstructs the traditional language of light and shadow to reconstruct a new system of visual expression grounded in perspective, fragmentation, and spatial ambiguity.
Rather than treating light as illumination and shadow as absence, this identity system frames them as co-constructive forces. Light reveals, shadow defines. The shifting boundary between the two becomes the visual and conceptual foundation of the work. Typography, image, and layout mirror this dialogue—sometimes dissolving into gradient fields, sometimes sharply delineated by spatial axes.
The publication is not merely a record of the exhibition—it is the exhibition. Conceived as a spatial object, the catalogue can be disassembled and displayed as autonomous fragments across the gallery, each page operating as both artifact and surface. Assembled back into book form, it reconstitutes the spatial experience into a temporal one—turning the act of reading into a form of navigation.
In this way, publication and exhibition fold into one another, blurring the distinction between documentation and experience, between fixed narrative and open-ended assembly. The identity does not seek to represent the exhibition; it becomes part of its unfolding logic.
