GREAT BABY! (2025)
I got really into watching videos of people recording their tv’s pre-2010 and what they deemed documenting for youtube. That spiralled into videos about and surrounding the great recession, which turned into a retrospective. This video is almost entirely made up of videos from 2008, with a few outliers up until July 2009. I love working with nostalgia and archive in my work, but it’s so curated for aesthetics and beauty, this was the rawest material I’ve ever worked with. Old loan scams targeting homeowners with 5 views, Bush speeches with thousands, elementary schools with hundreds, almost all forgotten on old channels that were at the forefront of online news. Watching interviews with men who made it big off suffering right after a spring break trip right after workers being laid off right after dylan o’briens digital footprint just wouldnt leave the brain. Can’t recommend the before: 12-31-2008 tag enough.
THIS IS IT
“My God, I never realized how much I want to live. I want to live so bad.”
Another one ig will hate the length of. This one is definitely less artistic and more a personal collection of thoughts and impressions surrounding the May 18th Mount Saint Helens explosion and the characters the media made out of real people. A few people I want to highlight and reccomend you read more about are David Johnston, Gerry Martin, and Dave Crockett. David’s reported final word’s “Vancouver, Vancouver, this is it!” are this videos namesake. Gerry Martin’s voice is laid behind photos of both him and Johnstons last photos and evidence found of their bases. It’s Dave’s voice you hear at the end and he’s the only of the trio to have survived the day. They’re only two of the 57 victims.
On a very different note, I want to send a billion thanks and infinite gratitude to @sthelensin1980 an account that was the source of nearly every single photo, audio, and video you’re seeing. I knew I wanted to make a project about Loowit and found his account early on, his daily play by play of the volacanic explosion and attention to detail was literally invaluable. I spent upwards of six hours on his account and then a few more watching the documentaries he sourced from and trying to dig deeper myself. I didn’t properly capture the scale of how this event changed the landscape and lives of people around it, but Chris does. There is no one doing it like him and if you love history follow him ASAP. #MSH45

Long post for: A Chronological Year In Review
Soundtrack: Night Out by Radiator Hospital
What a year! So much was thrown up in the air in January only for it to land safely back in my hands by December. Here’s the photos that captured a moment, whether beautiful, sentimental, messy, or strange. One million kisses to the beach trips, viewpoints, and festivals that defined the summer. A million more to the fat cats, fish, and fun of fall. Everything I really wanted to do this year I achieved, almost completely due to the kindness of my friends, whom without I’d probably be an accidental recluse. This was a great year all in all, here’s to a lifetime of more
(p.s I threw in a little video for Jae haters at the end, thank Bryce)
