ALARIÓN - Look 5. Bestiario Contemporáneo. ‘Alarión’; Moving away from direct representation of a species, it focuses instead on the concept of the winged form as essential abstraction. Silhouette, movement, and materiality refer to the archetype of the winged: elevation, lightness, and system. A hidden mechanism sets the wings in partial motion, not to reproduce flight, but to evoke the idea of a manifested presence. The piece is defined not by animal functionality, but by its condition as a living symbol: a pure representation of 'animality' in a mechanical, visual, and essentialist state. - ‘Bestiario Contemporáneo’ is a 5-look collection created as my Final Degree Project in Fashion Design, awarded with honors. ‘Inside the Collection Storage’ - Set in a ‘museum collection storage’, a space built for order and invisibility, this portrait reunites all the looks in one final concept. The creatures of ‘Bestiario Contemporáneo’ stand on rolling carts, surrounded by shelves and boxes, yet refuse to appear as objects in storage, they seem ready to move, to act, to be seen. The image challenges the idea of storage as silence or mere preservation. These creatures gain power when all their differences are seen together, confronting one another. ASPINERA - Look 3. Bestiario Contemporáneo. ‘Aspinera’; Taking inspiration from the morphology of insects and other arthropods that breathe through a tracheal system and have filamentous ‘appendages’ used for movement, ventilation, or defense, the design consists of a corseted base dress with a ‘drapping’ enveloping structure. Sublimated methacrylate pieces are applied over this structure, designed to simulate the plates of an insect’s exoskeleton, with a translucent, mineralized texture. On both sides of the body, two asymmetrical strips are integrated, each with four independent motors that activate a set of sharp, rigid blades. PLUMOREXIA - Look 2. Bestiario Contemporáneo. ‘Plumorexia’; evoking plumage as a communicative and performative feature rather than an aerodynamic one. The look is composed of a rigid fiberglass base into which treated artificial ‘pampas’ are integrated, carefully crafted to mimic natural feathers. Each element is airbrushed in a palette of blacks, whites, and browns, producing natural gradients that accentuate depth and volume. The design is asymmetrical: on one side, a large feather cascades to the floor, resembling an ornamental tail for display; on the opposite side, a second oversized feather is set in motion by a kinetic structure, recalling the courtship and defense rituals of ornamental bird species. GILLARA - Look 4. Bestiario Contemporáneo. ‘Gillara’; a ‘catsuit piece’ evoking aquatic creatures with active gill respiration. The look is composed of a structured corset, two detachable sleeves, and fitted trousers, in a nude tone replicating the model’s own skin, creating the illusion of a unified body. Its surface is entirely hand-embroidered with individually sewn sequins in a scale-like effect, with transparent, water-bright stones that wants to represent a constant visual impression of ‘wetness’. Integrated along the sleeves and trousers, a series of automated kinetic mechanisms, animate flexible fin-like extensions, rising and falling in rhythmic motion to simulate gill breathing. A tribute to bodies that exchange life through water, membranes in perpetual flux. The kinetic mechanisms in this look stem from a dedicated exploration of the works of Rebecca Horn and @casey_curran , whose practices in animating sculpture and crafting breathing, moving surfaces have been a vital inspiration. Today, I am overjoyed to share that this past year, I had the honor of being part of one of the most avant-garde couture houses in fashion history #irisvanherpen . My time there has been a life-changing experience, filled with growth, inspiration, and unforgettable moments that will stay with me forever.
