Yesterday, Mike Africa Jr. discussed his loved ones including his aunt Louise James' large afro and her straight forward personality. His aunt Louise was the owner of 6221 Osage Ave, the home that was bombed May 13, 1985. Mike also discussed how community and comrades have been the way through and forward in efforts to Reclaim Osage.

Yesterday, May 13th, we gathered to honor the lives lost of the members of MOVE in the 1985 bombing. 41 years ago, on May 13, 1985, the city of Philadelphia dropped a military-grade bomb on the home of The MOVE Organization in West Philadelphia, murdering 11 members of MOVE, including 5 children, and burning down two city blocks.
To learn more about this history follow our stories this week and follow @mikeafricajr@moveactivistarchive@themoveorganization

I got my hands on 65 hours worth of live broadcast news coverage and special reports on the MOVE bombing which occurred 41 years ago today. I produced this piece using that archival footage.
On May 13, 1985, Philadelphia police dropped a C4 explosive on the home of the @themoveorganization family at 62nd and Osage Avenue, after 500 police fired over 10,000 rounds into the home. City officials allowed the fire to burn, killing 11 people including five children, and destroying 61 homes.
Eyewitness and forensic evidence indicates that several MOVE children attempted to flee the burning home through the rear but were either shot back inside or their bullet-ridden bodies were thrown back into fire by police waiting in the alleyway.
In 2021, it was revealed UPenn and Princeton had stolen the remains of several of the children and not only conducted experiments on them but also wheeled them out on gurneys at fundraising events.
John Africa's head has never been returned and saw marks on his neck indicate foul play during an unauthorized autopsy.
No one has ever been held accountable for any of it.
In 2023, @mikeafricajr bought the house back which was originally owned by his aunt Louise James, but was seized by the City through eminent domain after the bombing and turned into a police substation. He is barred from turning the home into a memorial until he pays off the $400K mortgage, support link below.

Registration is open! The inaugural MOVE DAY 5K marks the beginning of a new tradition. The 1985 bombing resulted in the loss of 11 MOVE members, including 5 children, and the destruction of 61 homes.
Physical health and wellness were central to MOVE’s beliefs and daily practice. What better way to honor this legacy than to move together?
100% of the net proceeds will support the Reclaim Osage Campaign, which is working to buy the home bombed by the City of Philadelphia.

On Friday, April 24, 2026 we marched in "Mumia Lives"! Rally & Birthday Celebration. We gathered outside DA Larry Krasner's office and we'll continue to do so until his office takes all the necessary steps for Mumia Abul-Jamal's release.
During our march Mumia himself called in and spoke to the crowd. You can see the impact as we huddled to listen and the fire in the crowd as we continued to march.
We gathered in community afterward for a reception and in celebration of Mumia's 72nd birthday.

Sisters,
where there is cold silence
no hallelujahs, no hurrahs at all, no handshakes,
no neon red or blue, no smiling faces
prevail.
Prevail across the editors of the world
who are obsessed, self-honeying, and self-crowned
In the seduced arena.
It has been a
hard trudge, with fainting, bandaging, and death.
There have been startling confrontations.
There have been tramplings. Tramplings
of monarchs and of other men.
But there remain large countries in your eyes.
Shrewd sun.
The civil balance.
The listening secrets.
And you create and train your flowers still.
- Gwendolyn Brooks
Come and hold space with me on Friday... Our Sisters and Siblings deserve that
This vigil is for Black women, femmes, non binary and GNC folks.
Friday, April 24th 2026 6:00pm- 7:00pm. meet up @ Lloyd Hall
In my conversation with Mumia Abu-Jamal we talk about the unresolved contradiction of AI: if jobs are replaced en masse, how exactly will capital flow to the top as required by the system?
What is the fate of the working class under this mutated "economic reconversion", described by Fanon?
Fear, according to Mumia, is the point.

“March is Women’s History Month. We respond to this by creating time to recognize women and celebrate the principle of the feminine. Do you know any people who embody the beauty and power of the feminine? Do you know any women whose walk inspires to honor them? Please bring a picture and write a little something about them and bring it with you to service.
The Hermetic Principle of Gender states that gender is in everything, with masculine and feminine principles operating on all planes (physical, mental, and spiritual) to drive creation, generation, and regeneration. It asserts that all things contain both active (masculine) and receptive (feminine) forces rather than being exclusively one, with balance between them being necessary for creation. The feminine represents the receptive, creative, and “”nurturing”” aspect, which receives, shapes, and produces. We will celebrate women and the feminine at the March Service.
Join us Sunday, March 1st at the Church of the Revolution ~ 2 PM - 5 PM at Green Street Friends Meeting House, 45 W School House Lane in Germantown. Get there early so we can move and groove together, and stay till the end so we can break bread together.”
Thanks to the generosity of Black Lives Matter Philly, additional complimentary tickets are now available for Saturday, February 7, 2026 at the BlackPrint 20 Summit.
These tickets are intended for community members, educators, and college students.

As we start a New Year, let's decide together to manifest a new world. 2026 is a 1 year, a time of initiation, creation, invention, and a horse year, a time of power, energy - freedom! Let's use everything we've learned over this recent time to create something relentlessly beautiful. The theme for January is "New World Genesis" and the Principle is "Water is Life's Flow." How does water guide our co-manifestation? Let's talk about it. Join us Sunday, January 4th at 2pm at Green Street Meeting House, 45 W School House Lane in Germantown. Get there on time and move with us and the sounds of DJ Mars. Enjoy poetry from our Black Panther Big Sis Regina Jennings, and a word from YahNé Ndgo, Fire Keeper of Ubuntu Freedom. Then let's break bread together, delighting in the delicious talent of Chef MoWils, while grooving to more of that good vibration DJ Mars is bringing and exploring the work of Philly's awesome organizations. Let's Flow!
