From the archives, 2018. A still photo of one of our early large-scale animated laser works — The Light at Roskilde Cathedral (UNESCO World Heritage). A fragile, electric portal carved into the night — somewhere between signal and memory. Accompanied by a beautifully eerie soundscape by @martinyammoller A huge thank you to the wonderful local couple that gave us full access to their private home - and a room above their bedroom for several late evenings and long nights 💚 And thanks to @msjekelnothyde for making it happen!

May 4th.
A moment for light. Last year, we illuminated Christiansborg Castle to mark the 80th anniversary of Denmark’s liberation — the entire facade as one unified gesture. A contemporary tribute to the tradition of lighting candles in the windows. More than 160 lamps.
and 80 of them as candles in the windows — one for each year of freedom. From the parliamentary chamber, the iconic tower and out through windows in the whole building. Created in close collaboration with the Danish Parliament.
Freedom - more important than ever. #LightAsMemory #NeverForget #BLLBRND

Light of the Night ✨ #9 Green Beam 📍 Tivoli — Danhostel CPH City — Vor Frelsers Kirke En skarp, grøn laser skærer gennem natten og markerer, at Copenhagen Light Festival er i gang.

We call on museums, curators, municipalities, and public institutions to commit to a minimum of 25% climate-related art in their programming. Not as a theme week. Not as a side note. But as a structural responsibility. Because climate change is not a future topic. It is the condition we are already living in. #25PercentForClimate #curatingtheclimatecrisis We say it once again. During Køge Kyndelmisse, Legacy of Melt cast its light onto the water tower in Køge. Not as an explanation. Not as a warning with clear answers. But as a reminder that the world is in motion. New research now points to up to a 70% risk of an AMOC collapse under a high-emissions scenario — and 25% even under a low-emissions scenario. Something we, and many others, have spoken about for years. Back then, it was often dismissed. Today, the picture has changed. And if the AMOC weakens or collapses, then it is not rising sea levels that Denmark and Northern Europe primarily face — but significant cooling. A climate moving toward something that resembles an ice age. This is not only about sea level rise. It is about ocean currents. Temperatures. Food systems. Migration. Unpredictability. Perhaps it is time we — as societies — stop asking only how high the water will rise, and start asking how resilient we are, when the world changes faster than we can control. The IPCC has now also placed ocean circulation at the center of its upcoming reports. Knowledge shifts. The world shifts. Which is why it is more important than ever that art and culture help keep the space open — to share the latest research, to feel its consequences, and to imagine how we continue living through change. Art cannot stop the transformation. But it can hold attention.

Sneak peak! Tomorrow Green Beam will mark the opening of @cphlightfest In its nine edition, handcrafted laser machines projects a green laser beam across Copenhagen. The beam stretches between Tivoli, Danhostel Copenhagen City, and Vor Frelser Kirke, drawing a temporary line in the urban landscape that activates and connects the city and its architecture in a new constellation. It invites us to look up and explore the city from new perspectives. BONUS INFO: The stretch from Danhostel to Tivoli measures exactly 532 meters - a homage to the classic green laser light, emitting coherent, phase-locked light at a wavelength of 532 nanometers 💚

We have developed a sonic–visual alphabet for Sonic Glyphs, now entering the final stages of installation and calibration. Created for the @lydbroendene_frb at Bent Fabricius-Bjerres Plads as part of Copenhagen Light Festival. 32 underground resonance wells are activated as one collective instrument — where light is inscribed into sound. The work features a 16-channel composition by Robotic Folk. Supported by Frederiksbergfonden and Copenhagen Light Festival. Opening soon. @cphlightfest @lydbroendene_frb @roboticfolk @frederiksberg_fonden

Today marks 35 years since January 13, 1991 — a defining night in Lithuania’s peaceful struggle for freedom. After Lithuania declared its independence the year before, Soviet forces moved to suppress that independence. Thousands of unarmed civilians stood to protect key sites like the Vilnius TV Tower. During the violent confrontation, 14 people were killed and hundreds were injured — events now remembered as the January Events, a powerful symbol of courage, unity, and the cost of freedom. There was also widespread resistance and mobilization in Kaunas and other cities, where people, like in Vilnius, took to the streets in defense of justice and freedom — an act of solidarity that links past and present. In a world once again marked by geopolitical tension, remembering these events is especially poignant. We feel honored that Båll & Brand, together with Danish light artist Martin Ersted, created the lighting installation for the premiere of “Liūdno vėjo alėjoje” in Kaunas. Composed by Raimundas Martinkėnas, the piece is a musical dedication to the defenders of freedom — a work that both honors the past and speaks to our shared humanity. The premiere took place yesterday at the historic Christ’s Resurrection Basilica in Kaunas, where the light installation formed a quiet, atmospheric layer within the performance — a space for remembrance, reflection, and collective presence.
