//////// In the second room of Leon Simonis’ exhibition “Vessels of Unbecoming”, a huge leaf of the Amazon water lily “Victoria amazonica” is shown from an unusual perspective: from below. Sinewy, almost animal-like, the sculpture blurs the boundary between plant and creature. Inspired by a folktale about a girl who falls in love with the moon and is transformed into a water lily, the work explores transformation as a radical transition. Loss, death, and rebirth intertwine — like a symbolic act of baptism, marking the emergence of a new state of being. /////// The work ‘Becoming of a Beast (Triptych)’ in Leon Simonis’ exhibition ‘Vessels of Becoming’ was created by casting parts of the Victoria amazonica in goatskin. The elliptical shape symbolises infinity and cyclical renewal. The surface appears soft yet resilient. It cannot be clearly classified as human, animal or plant, thereby bringing home to us our kinship and the shared structures of all living beings. 📆📍The exhibition runs until 19 April 2026, so make the most of this opportunity and pop along! //////// The work ‘Nepenthes: Through Matter’ (2025) is part of Leon Simonis’ exhibition ‘Vessels of Unbecoming’ in the Schaufenster junge Kunst. At the centre of a circularly arranged chiffon curtain hangs a Nepenthes, a pitcher plant, whose funnel-shaped throat creates a suction effect. The interior of the plant is painted with a deep black, light-absorbing pigment that draws our gaze inwards and silences all distractions. Both alluring and menacing, it embodies an ambivalent figure: a deadly trap in which insects perish whilst simultaneously becoming part of a new body. Thus „Nepenthes: Through Matter“ refers to the perpetual transformation of matter. @blitzbube #leonsimonis #vesselsofunbecoming #schaufensterjungekunst @galeriestadtsindelfingen #onview

📅 Ausstellung: 07.02.2026-19.04.2026 Kuratorin: Marisa Zeising /// đŸ’„ Upcoming: Leon Simonis - Vessels of Unbecoming đŸ’„ We cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition ,Vessels of Unbecoming' in the Junge Kunst shop windows on Friday, February 6, at 7 p.m. Vessels of Unbecoming is dedicated to the ephemeral state of transition. Transformation, deconstruction, and metamorphosis are at the heart of the works, which understand materials and plants as fragile bodies undergoing constant change. Everything is multifaceted, nothing is complete, nothing is final. Mythical, religious, and contemporary narratives merge into a new, speculative mythology. The exhibition itself becomes a vessel for new ideas. It raises questions about the origins of cultural practices, the mixing of ideologies, and the finiteness of things. “Becoming” becomes a symbol of letting go of traditional customs and a willingness to allow new perspectives on nature, faith, and interpretive authority. 📅 Exhibition: 07.02.2026-19.04.2026 Curator: Marisa Zeising Die Ausstellung wird gefördert von der / The exhibition is supported by Helmut Fischer Stiftung @blitzbube @marisa_zsng @galeriestadtsindelfingen

DEVOUR, ECLIPSE 10|05-28|06|2025 @wuka_naturalia_artificialia Dark liquid flows along the shell of a large chrysalis - a 3D-scanned and printed pupa of the Atlas moth, the largest moth in existence. Through transparent tubes, the chrysalis pumps the liquid out of the basin beneath, like a heart pulsating inside a body. Spiky plants, cocooned in oily latex, sprout through the mist, stirred up by heavy drops falling from the chrysalis. A warm vein of light illuminates the chrysalis. An intricate, ornamental pattern, ripped into latex, frames the installation. Moths are generally associated with death and rebirth, emerging out of the darkness inside their cocoons into the night. Their everlasting longing for light often results in their death. A gathering of moths is called an eclipse. Their swarming bodies eclipse the luring light - they have devoured their purpose. Leon Simonis with „DEVOUR, ECLIPSE“ at WUNDERKAMMER - NATURALIA I ARTIFICIALLIA Opening: 10th Mai 2025, 7pm Duration: 11th Mai to 28th June 2025 Opening Hours: 24/7 Address: Badstraße 32, 70372 Stuttgart Info: Free admission and barrier-free DEVOUR, ECLIPSE, 2025 PLA, LED light, colored water, PVC tubes, acrylic glass basin, water pump, stainless steel, dried plants, latex Dark liquid flows slowly along the shell of a large, transparent chrysalis, hanging in the center of the installation – a 3D-scanned and printed pupa of the Atlas moth, the largest moth in existence. Through transparent tubes, stretching from two delicate steel bars, the chrysalis pumps the liquid out of the basin beneath, like a heart pulsating inside a ribcage in the middle of a body. Clusters of spiky plants, cocooned in oily, wet latex, sprout through the thick mist within the basin, stirred up by heavy drops falling from the chrysalis above. A blinding vein of light illuminates the chrysalis from within, luring in moths during darkness. An intricate, ornamental pattern, ripped into the latex on the window front, frames the installation. The cultural depiction of moths, unlike butterflies, is clouded in mysticism and gloomy folktales. They are generally associated with death and rebirth, emerging out of the darkness inside their cocoons into the night. Their everlasting longing for light often results in their death. A gathering of moths is called an eclipse or whisper. Their swarming bodies eclipse the luring light source – they have devoured their purpose. Images: 1. Poster, 2025, @moldbabe 2. Plug, 2024 3. Veil Phase 2: Sclerotica A seemingly growing, symmetrical, abstract being, entwining visitors through various sensory stimuli. ,,Veil” is now in the process of sclerotization; the biochemical process that produces the rigid shell of an insect’s chitinous exoskeleton. The being in this phase varies between different intensities of black, has started growing long, black hair and stretches across the tight, rigid skeleton of the facade of the gr_und space. Because of its usage of pre-existing structures, the being is revealing its parasitic characteristics. By entering the ,,Veil“, visitors get cocooned into the pungent latex smell, separating the exhibition within from the outside world. Veil at @parallelvienna on view september 11|12 21|22 The site specific intervention takes visual inspiration from the inkblots of the (in)famous projective psychological Rorschach Test and interweaving them with biblical number codes. By entering the ,,Veil“, visitors get cocooned into the pungent latex smell and the sinister, ominous rumbling of the accompanying audio installation, blaring from within two resin shells, fixed on the metal skeleton of the room. A seemingly growing, symmetrical being, entwining visitors and veiling the identities of the people on either side. soundpiece by @moldbabe curated by @juliaharrauer
