“My dream was to move to Spain and study film (I’m from Kazakhstan originally). But my parents said: “You can, after a real degree.” So I did Marketing and Economics, worked in that and hospitality for 10 years since 16. By 27 I was depressed and thought: “F*ck it, we only live once.”
At first I thought I’d produce — same concept than managing cafes/bars. Then I saw the Lighting Department. Oh man, they were so cool. The coolest department on set (sorry not sorry). I fell in love. I messaged many, many gaffers: “Hi, my name is Bliss. Please, I want to learn.” I received silence or rejection, hahah. Also, many people told me there’s no space for a woman there. Oh come on!
Maybe if not for my background of proving to myself I’m worth anything I desire, that would hit me very hard. Especially for a young woman. I cried once when I was told by one light tech that I should reconsider my decision and go towards something else on set. Ha, never back down, never what?
I’m still learning every set, but I don’t believe in holding back or gatekeeping knowledge just because someone thinks you’re not “enough.” I think there’s space for everyone, and everyone deserves to pursue their dream no matter skin color, sexuality, or gender” -

From hospitality to the film industry.
From long sharp nails to working gloves.
It’s unbelievable.
I love the hospitality and specialty-coffee industry for teaching me how to work hard and how to be patient. From a baby barista to managing multiple locations. What a journey. Eight unforgettable years (say hi in the comments if I made you a coffee).
I met so many nice people there, and many of them helped me find my way and inspired me as well. Most of them knew about my obsession with manicures and coloured hair lol, that was a big part of my personality too. It might sound funny, but its true. I couldn’t imagine myself without it. I’d go every month like it was church.
But then things changed. My hands have always been the hands of a hard worker, but now they are carrying arri m40.
And I love it.

I have to say big thanks to 2025 for proving me anything could happen if you really really want it. Or you delusional enough to dream it.
Just a year ago I hated my job: I worked in hospitality for almost 8 years and I lost it there.
I was so afraid of dreaming that I could actually work in film, be a filmmaker, be creative. Had to break so many patterns and cut some opinions from people who has been just telling me what I was terrified and insecure of. You see, sometimes you gotta jump into the void and just believe that you have the wings. Believe that there’s a place for you in this world, no matter where you go, or what you choose to do. Believe that the life will take care of you. And maybe after knocking into 100 doors - one will open.
I am so so grateful for my life and for all the people that let me be part of theirs, and I am so fucking excited for upcoming time. I lost that feeling many years ago and now it’s here again. I wish you to find that and keep that alive.
P.S. I think y’all listened to enough techno for your whole life and the life of your kids and grandkids. Here’s the banger from a Kazakh rock band Dos Mukasan all the way from the 70s. It’s about dreaming of falling in love.
