The Buklod forum in Venice adapted to live conditions during protests at the Venice Biennale Arsenale and subsequent road closures on Via Garibaldi. The artist-led gathering shifted from a scheduled report back meeting into an impromptu, DIY pop-up storytelling presentation inside an Airbnb. Participants activated the bedroom, living room, and kitchen into social spaces, a temporary sites displaying new artworks, fragments, and works-in-progress.The event concluded with a traditional Filipino karaoke session. This iteration of Buklod brought together Filipino artists, curators, and cultural workers traveling from New York, Canada, London, the Netherlands, Colombia, Vienna, Berlin, and the Philippines, with last-minute moderation by curator Jomar @jomscuartero Maraming Salamat! Mabuhay tayong lahat!🙌❤️‍🔥🙌 This initiative is made possible by the support of @blissonbliss @transnational.movement @laundromat_proj 🙏🏾

The forum will be moderated by guest curator Jose Mari Cuartero. The program will take place on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 PM (instead of 5PM) at Ca’ Malatin. , followed by an informal reception with drinks, conversation, and karaoke. The forum is accompanied by a limited-run exhibition presentation on view from May 5–9, 2026, from 10:00 AM–5:00 PM, by appointment only. Jevijoe Vitug is a New York–based Filipino artist working across painting, performance, and social practice. Drawing from a decade as a museum guard, he reframes the avant-garde through lived experience—“guarding a collection” of intertwined histories. His work foregrounds overlooked narratives of labor and migration, shaped by hybridity and constant change. Vitug has exhibited internationally, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Queens Museum, Socrates Sculpture Park, ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines. He earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) dual degree in Studio Arts and Design and Technology from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2015. He is an artist-member of Flux Factory, collaborates with Abang-guard, serves as a graduate advisor at Philippine Women’s University School of Fine Arts & Design, and is founding convener of Buklod Forum.
