Zenzy Blindeling

We are happy to announce that Zenzy Blindeling is the winner of the Free Heri Heri Open Call 2026. Earlier this year we launched our first open call, inviting artists and creators from around the world to design the artwork for Free Heri Heri. We were inspired by the many thoughtful and creative submissions that came in. Zenzy’s proposal stood out for its strong sense of storytelling, community, and Black joy. We are excited to welcome her to the project and look forward to sharing her beautiful concept with you soon. ———— Met veel plezier maken we bekend dat Zenzy Blindeling de winnaar is van de Free Heri Heri Open Call 2026. Voor onze eerste open call nodigden we kunstenaars en makers van over de hele wereld uit om een ontwerp te maken voor het Free Heri Heri artwork. We ontvingen veel inspirerende inzendingen. Het voorstel van Zenzy viel op door haar beeldtaal, het gevoel van gemeenschap en de Black joy die in het werk zit. We zijn heel blij dat zij onderdeel wordt van het project en kijken ernaar uit om haar concept binnenkort met jullie te delen.

I haven't recorded a sewing project in so long!!! My boyfriend's birthday was coming up, and I told him I'd make him a cloak ages ago, so I took a week off work to do a cloakmaking speedrun any% The end was a battle since it was -5 degrees outside and my workspace doesn't have heating on the weekends 🥲 But I'm glad I got it done and that it was a success! Practical details: I used Mood's free Winterberry Cape pattern as a base, though I didn't follow the instructions and kind of freewheeled most of it. I went for the medium length, omitted the arm slits from the pattern and just opened up the side seams instead, added two inner pockets, and extended the front panels so I could have it overlap and add buttons.

Ik ben ook gelukszoeker. Jij niet dan? A dutch pun on the word "gelukszoeker" (opportunist, lit. "luck seeker") which is used in a derogatory way towards refugees when people think they don't actually need asylum. Geluk means both "luck" and "happiness". Recently, I've seen people wear necklaces with the word, reclaiming and reframing it as someone seeing happiness (and with that, also defending refugees) New prints up in my webshop now 🍀

Went to see Belkis Ayón's works for the second time, last time being in 2022. This time the hands in her works stood out to me. Lately I've been interested in the combination of catholic imagery and African and creole traditions, especially in the Caribbean and South-America.
