On March 1st 1910 a lightening strike triggered a 15 foot wall of snow to crash down onto the line, pushing 2 Northern rail cars 150 feet into the Tye River Valley. 96 died and 36 lived, the bodies were buried in the snow until they could be properly laid to rest
