Some recent close ups of Earth! 🌍 These photos have all manner of flowers and bugs but I would like to mention that the first photo is of a Milkweed Assassin Bug, which has one of the coolest names in the animal kingdom.
I am always eager to celebrate Earth Day as it is the kind of holiday that should be every day. The earth is such a treasure for us and every other living creature. I am always amazed by how much diversity there is on this planet, the ways that it all coexists together, and simply how beautiful it is to take in the sunshine, the flowers, and everything else. There is always more to explore and we are so lucky to be here and call this place home!
Thank you to everyone who came out to see my photographs as a part of In Focus this past week! All of the photographers in the collection, themed around "Consumption", brought really strong work and I was honored to be among such a great group.
My pieces (in the order shown here) are titled
Free My Girl Miffy
No Exit
The American Way
This Used To Be A Forest
And of course, thank you to @thebakeryatlanta for curating and @thesupermarket.atl for being the coolest place for art in Atlanta!!!
This is a preview of my photographs (and their titles) currently on display as part of the In Focus exhibition presented by @thebakeryatlanta at @thesupermarket.atl .
The theme of the group exhibition is "Consumption". You may notice the four photographs of mine that are chosen do not contain any natural elements--no trees, no grass, no flowers, no animals. Each of these scenes are man-made.
With that in mind, I invite you to consider the impact humanity has in our relationship with the earth, especially in the last few hundred years as we have industrialized and consumed at unprecedented rates.
Open now through Sunday with a closing reception 12pm-4pm on Sunday.
Moments from February. Hello, world! It's been a season of sunset hikes and product photography and hanging out with horses in front of Waffle House. I'm glad the weather's getting warmer. I'm glad the days are getting longer. Positive neuroplasticity requires active user interface.

In celebration of the "rapture" this week, here's a church outside of Montgomery, Alabama that would have you believe the rapture is always happening tomorrow. The fire and brimstone approach always comes across more scary and unhinged than informative. Doesn't this place seem so inviting? (sarcasm)
I will be so bold as to say we'll get through this week and even the next one. Let's all just keep living and find out. ✨
A little over a month has passed since I had the opportunity to meet and listen to Navy veteran Monica Helms, creator of the trans flag 🏳️⚧️, at an event organized in her honor at @atlantaeagle
Helms spoke at length about what the flag means to her, how it physically came to be, her joy in seeing the symbol so quickly adopted worldwide, and also her time serving in the US military through the 1970s and supporting veterans groups since then. Of course a veteran of the Navy knows the importance of flags! What struck me most about her is how humble and unassuming she is, even at an event meant to celebrate her. I believe I described her to someone afterward as a “chill grandma”—which she is, being a grandmother of four. Her original goal way way back was only to create a symbol with which she could identify and which represented other trans people she knew. She elaborates on this further in her book “More Than Just A Flag”. At the event, Helms was presented with a flag signed by many thankful for her contribution, was presented artworks created as a tribute to her, was sung to by a local chorus, and honored by a local church. There was also a reading by celebrated poet @billietriestowrite .
All in all, it was an incredibly warm evening of celebration. A huge thank you to organizers @haus_of_mergatu and @cat_von_dyke for inviting me to photograph the event.
"ROMANCE"
THE FUN THING ABOUT "ROMANCE" IS NO ONE REALLY KNOWS WHO WROTE IT. SOME SAY IT CAME FROM SPAIN, OTHERS SAY FROM SOUTH AMERICA. IT'S BEEN AROUND SINCE THE 1800s AND HAS MANY LOVELY ADAPTATIONS. THIS ADAPTATION IS BY ME. I'M RATS JOHNSON!

Los Angeles trip was an absolute dream! Saw some people I've been overdue to see for a long, long time! Watched an incredibly emotional My Chemical Romance show at Dodger Stadium (where they premiered "The War Beneath The Rain" 😭)! Walked through some lovely gardens! Ate at Bob's Big Boy! Visited David Lynch's grave! Met a really big dog who's such a good boy! Hit up Amoeba Music in Hollywood! Toured an extremely cool recording studio! Waltzed through Little Tokyo! Looked through the shops on Magnolia in Burbank! Ate the Shaq Dog at Pink's! Watched Gerard Way eat a hot dog live on stage! Walked on five different beaches! Visited the Hello Kitty Grand Café! Had a lot of Mexican food!
Wondering how I had all the time to do this? Spirit Airlines delayed my return flight a full 48 hours 💀 (Thank you @sweetpazano for saving me from the airport).
I hope to be back soon! Still adapting back to normal life lol
