Cape Town’s been stormy lately, and a lot has been on pause.
But Thursday the sun comes out, and we’re doing what we do: dress up, gather, dance.
Assembly Point is steelpan-led island rhythm with Cape groove, made for a dance floor.
Damoi Morgan (steelpan) + Blake Hellaby (piano) with Sean Sanby (bass) + Darren Peterson (drums).

Chasing the Sun
@triou_sa went on a little Garden Route tour where we did a workshop and had 2 beautiful gigs, 1 at the @markettheatregeorge and 1 at @intotoretreat who hosted us for the weekend. On the day of our departure Richard (one of the retreat partners) took us on a beach walk to see the sunrise
On April 1st, Cape Town Jazz Club opened its doors for the first time.
Thank you to everyone who joined us—this is just the beginning.
Stay tuned for more unforgettable nights!

The launch of new space @capetownjazzclub earlier this evening which will feature jazz twice a week (Wed & Sun) , and will feature jam sessions, album launches, as well open for students for rehearsals during the week... No frills but there is a piano and the vibes were good and lawd knows we have slim pickings when it comes to venues in SA. Im tired of all these corporate vibes... We just need heart and soul back into sound and spaces that allow for creative expression. . And who better to lead that that the genius of Mark Fransman, schooled in the tradition of South African jazz and playing both piano and saxophone interchangeably. Also amazing to see elder @hiltonschilder join for the jam later.
Tonight (Wed, 1 April) marks the launch of the Cape Town Jazz Club.
We kick off the club with our “Wednesday ‘til Late” which has
• an opening band starting at 18:00
• feature band starting at 19:30
• followed by a jazz jam session
We begin the series featuring Sonik Citizen and his Homage Trio with Stephen de Souza and Kevin Gibson. And Jed Petersen will be opening the night with his band: Uviwe Caso, Sean Sanby and Liam Petersen.
Mark Fransman is one of South Africa’s great musicians and has guided me at different times throughout this journey of jazz. We are very excited to have him open this club.
Jed is an exciting young talent with a huge sound a musical presence, I am proud to have played a part in his musical development.
Darren Petersen, Sean Sanby and I are very excited to be part of this new venture at Cape Town Jazz Club.
We hope to see you there supporting this new creative space in Cape Town, and help us get it going 🙏🏽
