Cooperative businesses are a necessary, but insufficient, component of a solidarity economy that meets the needs of Baltimore’s black residents. We also need bottom-up political engagement that challenges US imperialism, capitalism, racism, sexism and traditional electoral politics. For black-led solidarity economy organizations and cooperatives to make a meaningful difference, they should support and/or participate in black-led, anti-imperialist political organizations that recognize the shortcomings of “black capitalism” as a viable path for broadly-felt, social transformation in Baltimore. Join these stellar panelists as they explore this question!
