Screening with @blacktowerprojects on Saturday 6th of April at 7:30pm.
🇵🇸
Mascara Film Club presents a screening of three films that examine Palestinian life under Israeli occupation.
🇵🇸
PROGRAMME:
The Melancholy of this Useless Afternoon Chapter 1, Dina Mimi, 2022 (12 mins)
The Melancholy of this Useless Afternoon Chapter 2, Dina Mimi, 2022 (11 mins)
Recollection, Kamal Aljafari, 2015 (1 hour 10 mins)
🇵🇸
Two films by Dina Mimi, “The Melancholy of this Useless Afternoon Chapters 1 and 2”, pair revolutionary songs from Oman, Yemen and Palestine with a tired speaker at the end of the phone, her fragmented conversation describing a loss, fugitive movement and thoughts on revolution. Kamal Aljafari’s “Recollection” is a contemplative unravelling of a violent archive. The Israeli and American features shot in the town of Jaffa from the 60s to the 90s are the basis for the history of a dream. All protagonists are removed from the original footage, leaving an empty setting formed by the town. Examinations of erasure and exposure are recurrent in this fundraiser screening.
🇵🇸
Tickets are £5 and we will be accepting donations on the night. Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the fundraiser to help Lina and her family to evacuate from Gaza (link in bio). Please consider donating to provide vital support to Lina’s family during an ongoing genocide and violent occupation.

Mascara Film Club is an artist-run film club. Taking place outside institutional art spaces, we screen artists’ moving image in more convivial contexts. We understand film screenings defined less as the relation between film and spectators in hushed rooms, but rather as performative and social events where the critical intimacies of friendship and community can come to the fore. Through our programming we seek to bring into conversation films and people, and foster a self-organised infrastructure for moving image practitioners.

Fiesta En El Vacío is the project of French/Argentinian artist and producer Luna Cedrón, a strange mixture of left-field synthesised experimentalism and flamenco infused south-american folk song. Her recent record Rosal has been released on Teenage Menopause Records.
She will be performing live at Black Tower as part of her upcoming tour with Acte Bonté, the electronic duo of sisters Rébecca and Fiona Bonté whose obsessional loops, occasional kicks, and ethereal auto-tuned melodies have echoed in many basements and backyards in Western Europe.
Two acts that are not to be missed.

@timeisaway launch their new compilation Searchlight Moonbean on Friday 10th of November.
Omertà and Tanz Mein Herz guitarist Pierre Bujeau plays live in his Megabasse guise. Using a double neck guitar and twin amps, he creates beautiful long-form minimal music that occupies a similar space to Manuel Göttsching, Michael O’Shea, Pierre Jean Crose or Dorothy Carter.
Time Is Away will play records before and after. Expect some food and copies of the compilation for sale. Music starts at 6pm.
🐠 After a summer break we’re back 🐠
Next one on 28th of October with @fineglindvad@conradpack_@pesoneto_ and @dj_eliot_
Fine is a singer/songwriter and producer from Copenhagen. Her soundscape incites nighttime desert driving via David Lynch; peacefully flying in the dark. Fine's angelic voice reminisces of half speed Cocteau Twin and/or if Dolly Parton played alternative rock.
SELN founders DJ Gonz and Conrad Pack conjoin their obsessive talents via their latest double act; Action. Imagine the industrial soundscape of prenuptial catastrophe and you might have something close to the sound of Action in action. Expect drone, noise, potentially voice and possibly more.
DJ of the night is DJ Eliot, a DJ who has established their sound through residencies on LYL Radio, NTS and Clyde Built Radio. Her ear and enthusiasm is what allows her to truly flourish in all environments. Nothing off the cards - come and experience.
Tuning the sound system ahead of our upcoming events 🔊 note: both are early shows!
