St Paul’s Carnival in Bristol to be scaled back this year due to rising costs and safety concerns
A full-scale St Paul’s carnival will not take place in Bristol this year after organisers said it could not be delivered safely or sustainably due to rising costs.
A smaller programme of community events, workshops, and family-friendly activities will take place whilst planning continues for a possible return in 2027.
Open letter launched to save Birmingham City University’s Black Studies MA 📚
Around 150 academics, writers and activists worldwide have signed an open letter urging Birmingham City University to reverse plans to close its Black Studies MA less than a year after it launched.
BCU has cited low demand as the reason for the closure. This follows the closure of BCU’s undergraduate Black Studies course in 2024, amid warnings that the subject faces erasure from higher education entirely.
A final decision is expected by 29 May
