On the final day of the Annual BSLC Culture, Campus, and Career tour we had the opportunity to visit the Walls ranch in Pearland, Texas and be hosted by Mr. Walter Walls, former TSU track coach and recent retiree from NASA. He called in the big guns and our students had the opportunity to meet with the former Deputy Chief Information Officer of NASA Annette Moore!!
They got back in touch with nature, collecting eggs from the chicken coop, climbing trees, fighting off, love, bugs, petting horses, and greeting hunting beagles!!  Mr. Walt smoked whole chickens and beef and pork sausage from a local black owned butcher store. It was a great day and not one to be soon forgotten by our young people. Jambo! I could say a lot about our showcase, but for this post I would like to focus on one of our values, which is education. This year during the induction ceremony of our honorary members, The Williams Family Foundation (Tyrone & Cathy) awarded Ivana Sagitteh, a second generation, 4-year member of BSLC who will be majoring in a STEM field as their honored scholarship recipient. What people don’t know is that BSLC has a large number of young black scholars to choose from who check all of the boxes for scholarships and college admissions. Many of them average 60–100 hours of service learning and volunteer work each year with BSLC alone and are also involved in other community community organizations.

On February 23rd BSLC hosted our Ninth Annual Black History & Heritage Showcase at Burke High School.
