Black Math performs with an explosive energy, operating seemingly as one as they execute massive riffs that are both sludgy and fast-paced.
Guitarist and vocalist Cam Lofstrand, whose top string broke just before we started recording, somehow keeps his head in three places at once - tap dancing on his pedalboard, throwing down riffs and lead lines, and sailing his powerful voices across the top of the performance.
Bassist Tyla Burnett holds the performance together with his simple but highly effective setup of a vintage Rick running through a high-gain Rat, tightly locked with drummer Callula Jane Clay-Smith, who navigates the twists and turns of each tightly arranged song with a cool demeanour and mighty wrist power.
During their final song the band is joined by their newest member, Aidan Reynolds, who rips a tearing sax solo and delivers a final, guttural roar to send the performance home.

@blackmathza is a three piece Cape Town based band from Durban. Their sound is raw, unforgiving and will punch you in the face when you least expect it. They have developed their own unique sound that draws from genres like garage rock, psychedelic rock, stoner rock, punk and heavy metal.
We can’t wait to have Black Math at Hey Hey, Now Now on the 13 March!
