February 1984 I was among a few lucky people to attend a gig at the Marquee (Legend has it that Lemmy (Motörhead) and Noddy Holder (Slade) were in the audience that night). The group playing were Friends Again and they only existed for around 3 years, producing a single album (Trapped and Unwrapped).
I have continued to listen the their music, along with the music from the various bands that formed from the wreckage (love & Money, The Bathers). You can imagine my surprise and delight to discover they were playing a gig up in Glasgow at the Old Fruitmarket.
Figuring they were unlikely to play Birmingham (Noddy Holder should have had a word) I convinced my wife and our Lithuanian friends (who live in Glasgow) that this would be a good investment of our time. As a bonus I managed to get a photo pass (Thank you Paul McGeechan - keyboards) and Lloyd Cole, ( he of the Commotions fame) had flown in from the states, on his birthday, to lend his support.
As a spotty19 year old, I could never have imagine myself over 40 years later, camera in hand, enjoying such a magical event (part of the Celtic Connections festival). I can confirm it was a joyous night and if I had not given up alcohol as a 17 year old (my proud boasts I have never had a legal hangover) I would have probably got delightfully squiffy …

It was a quick dash across the Atlantic from London to Las Vegas. Only being able to spend 4 days is a bit brutal on the body. However mad it seemed it was worth it. A brilliant show which I'm so glad we didn't miss...

Callum Beattie , supporting BNL at the Wulfrun Hall . An excellent discovery, joining an ever growing list of Scottish talent that includes Roddy Frame (Aztec Camera) and James Grant (love & Money). Although the sound was more reminiscent of the Welsh group #Stereophonic.
BNL - always a delight live, a rare combination of brilliant musicians and wonderful comedy. A modern day Marx brothers that is definitely a more fun experience than having your gonads pulled out through your nostrils ....

As Keg came in at midnight they were actually playing Monday 24th so we're almost the Monday headline, only another and came on at around 1am. After 4 days of solid photography I was dead on my feet, so dragged myself back to my tent...it was only that KEG were great fun to watch live, that bc kept me going that late...
