Attending the @blackingastro Association of Black Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists Summit was everything! ❤️ To sit in rooms filled with Black gastroenterologists, hepatologists, scientists, researchers, and healthcare leaders who are actively working to address the healthcare disparities impacting our communities was incredibly powerful. As a Black woman living with IBD, there is something deeply meaningful about seeing people who look like me leading these conversations, advancing science, advocating for equity, and changing the future of care. Please know that as patients, we see you. We appreciate you. And your work matters more than you know. One of the most impactful moments for me was hearing @tylerjameswill speak so openly about living with Crohn’s Disease, mental health, and navigating life with chronic illness. I resonated with so much of his story, and hearing that level of honesty and vulnerability was inspiring. I left the summit feeling seen, empowered, hopeful, and reminded why patient voices belong in these spaces. Thank you to everyone behind ABGH for creating spaces where representation, science, advocacy, and community can exist together. The work you are doing is changing lives. 🤎 In good health, Kimberly M. Hooks 💫 #ulcerativecolitis #crohnsdisease #patientadvocate #IBD #kimberlymhooks

We did a thing. ABGH Summit 2026 is in the books. And an incredible experience was had. Celebrating our accomplishments, while also learning about how the harsh realities of health inequity manifests in disease outcomes, and how to turn the tides, left our audiences inspired and empowered to make change in our field for the better. We are grateful to all who were in community with us, and we can’t wait to do it again next year.
